phil.chant got their new wordpress theme design by running a design contest:
Fat & Muscle X-Ray scan service needs awesome web redesign!
Check out phil.chant's WordPress theme design contest…
Bodyscan is the UK's only company dedicated to accurately measuring body composition (fat and muscle) with medical-grade dual-energy X-ray (DEXA) technology. DEXA is the gold standard as used by sports science universities and professional athletes and teams. Bodyscan brings that 'science lab' measurement experience to the consumer. A 2-minute video of the experience is on the bodyscanuk.com home page and at https://youtu.be/SKlezv08Agg. Our customer base is 70% men 30% women. The median age is 38 years old but they range from 18-75. They are generally intelligent and have done their research to discover that DEXA is the most accurate way of measuring their body fat. They are serious about improving their bodies but they are NOT, generally speaking, super-fit athletes or bodybuilders. While they may, on average, be less fat than the general UK population, the majority of clients come to Bodyscan because they are at least a little overweight and want to get in better shape. Bodyscan allows them to track their fat loss/muscle gain progress with great precision and accuracy.
The redesign needs to be clean and fresh to reflect the attributes of medical-grade technology, precision, accuracy, seriousness, expert at what we do, aspiration to physical fitness. The Bodyscan logo colours are orange and black, which are not great website colours and I am not wedded to them at all, but a bright orange as an accent or for buttons is fine (eg, the buttons on this site: http://phonedudes.co.uk/) The orange subheading text "Fully responsive website..." on this page: https://passion.digital/case-studies/phone-dudes/ also looks fine but, again, I don't care if orange and black don't appear in the website at all. The logo typeface is Oswald and I really DON'T want that used anywhere, it's ugly! On my existing bodyscanuk.com site (which is home-built with Weebly) I like the simple buttons and Lato navigation menu and Lato typeface for their cleanness.
I want you to bring your web design experience to this rather than me prescribe exactly what should be on each page. Use the existing website (bodyscanuk.com) as a base. 1. HOME PAGE This needs to grab the attention, explain what Bodyscan is about and convince visitors to book a scan or a package, or make an enquiry by email or phone. A sexy 'productized' picture of the 5-page Bodyscan report (similar to the specially designed images of an e-book you see on some landing pages - they make it look like an impressive hardback when it's just a black & white Word document) Great image Ability to capture email The Bodyscan video Basic pricing The phone number The pre-paid packages and prices/savings A selection of customer reviews ABOUT PAGE About DEXA technology, the company, the team of three people. This will be the template for the rest of the pages that are simply content and images. PRICING PAGE This is currently just three PowerPoint tables saved as PNG files. It needs to look clearer and slicker. I may come back for more pages but those three should create the direction for the site.
What to avoid
I don't want unnecessary or excessive movement, with images sliding and flying around and I don't like the current fad for an entire website to be on one hugely long page.
The Bodyscan website has grown organically from a terrible GoDaddy site to what it is today, which uses the Weebly platform, built by me. It's done the job well enough but now needs a redesign to make a leap to look far more professional, high-calibre and grab the attention and convert visitors. (Once I have the design I will probably use an existing company to actually build it with Wordpress.) Bodyscan is pretty much the only company in the UK that provides the accurate DEXA service, so we need to look cutting edge and unique, not homemade. We are based in London only at two swanky addresses - Marylebone and the City. Bodyscan simply measures how fat you are; while it doesn't improve your body, it gives you the information to enable you to do so (just like DNAFit), so we want to create that suggestion that Bodyscan will give you a better body. All bookings are taken online and I'd like the site to try and make that clear but also show the phone number to take phone enquiries. I like the existing Lato and Monserrat typefaces (but am open to suggestions) but there is no consistency, cross-site branding or consistent colour palette, it's a mess! You need you to come up with a fresh colour palette. At the moment there is no encouragement or way to capture any details from visitors, other than a third-party pop-up (made by gleam.io) to get a 10% discount. I'd like something permanent and up-front on the home page to capture an email. (Weebly doesn't have any type of form that integrates with Mailchimp, my email provider, hence the Gleam pop-up, which does.) I have chosen 'Physical Fitness' as the industry but that's because there is not a category for 'Personal Health' or 'Health & Fitness', which would be closer to what Bodyscan does. I stress again, while all our customers want to get in better shape and the site needs to be aspirational, don't get into the trap of focussing on muscled bodybuilders or on a dark, brick-and-metal-style industrial gym look. It may be worth pointing out that all the bookings (and customer reviews) are handled by an external third-party booking engine called Bookeo. You can see this in action if you click on all the options under the 'Book' tab in the navigation bar.
