drew.robertson got their new wordpress theme design by running a design contest:
Create a Wordpress Theme for Rack-A-Tiers Mfg.
Check out drew.robertson's WordPress theme design contest…
Rack-A-Tiers Mfg. is a manufacturer of specialty products for the electrical trade. A large selection of our products are invented by electricians in the field who come to us to help bring their ideas to market. We want to be able to showcase our products in a catalogue style format as well as give inventors of new and innovative products an avenue for getting in touch with us and sharing their ideas.
Rack-A-Tiers branding is heavily influenced by our cartoon "gangster" characters which are showcased throughout our many forms of media (packaging, website, catalogues, etc.) Our primary colors are Black (or slightly off-black) and yellow. For a better example, please see our existing website. We are, however, open to designs featuring a lighter background, if it works with our branding. We want to expand on the theme of our current website, wherein the use of darker, more industrial imagery highlighted with textured yellows is certainly a preference. We would like to stay away from anything that is heavily reliant on third party photography as we don't want to take away visual interest from the products. Also, as per the attached images, ignore the color scheming of the proposed initial design. It's too bright and uses too much orange. Although we don't mind the color, it's too prominent in the included mockup. We want to stay away from overly rounded corners as well, nothing (apart from *maybe* the search bar) needs to have a border radius any greater than 8px at the most.
Homepage needs to have pretty much every item that's displayed in the rough mockup presented in the attached image. The top image is supposed to be an image slider. Category boxes will all have cartoon gangster images associated with them, this should be displayed in some fashion. All other elements are subject to creative interpretation, but all must be visible in some way-shape-or-form. Social Media buttons need to be somewhere, header, footer, in their separate bar on the page. Style is up to you, but should flow with your other design choices. ---- Product Listings Page: Once a user has clicked on a category, images of the products relating to that category need to be displayed (see our website for example). Currently, this page is super boring and not that clean looking. We definitely want a fresh new look to the page. Keeping in theme with our branding as well as having the picture, name and part number for each product displayed are our only requests for this page. ----- Product Page: Relatively self-explanatory - Being that the website will be an e-commerce website in "Catalog Mode" The product page will inevitably look as most e-commerce product pages do. You don't need to include a price, or a "add-to-cart" button. The elements provided in the other attached picture all need to be present, albeit redesigned.
What to avoid
We are not looking to sell ad-space and as such, do not want this included in the designs.
