How Ryan564 started their web page design journey

Summary

NetNotations is looking for a homepage design for its new website. We are including an existing logo that hints at a desired look and feel for our page. We are also including a wireframe that presents a possible example of how the page might be organized, but we would have nothing against the designer modifying the layout or coming up with a completely different layout all together.

We are looking for a professional, yet stylish design with a clean, engaging layout. The site may incorporate some subtle Web 2.0 design themes, but nothing over the top (e.g. shiny round buttons).

See brief for complete details.

Company name

NetNotations

What inspires you and how do you envision the design for your business?

Description of our company:

The basic premise behind NetNotations is to "Annotate, organize, and share" the web. NetNotations is web application that allows users to annotate webpages with sticky note and highlighter annotations, organize annotated content into projects and categories, and share annotated pages with other users. See the sample text on our example wireframe for further details. Our site should cater to students, research professionals (e.g. analysts), journalists, bloggers, heavy web users, etc.

Description of our website:

We need a professional, yet stylish homepage that maintains the look and feel of our logo (available here). As mentioned earlier, we are looking for a professional, yet stylish design with a clean, engaging layout.

Also, to help you determine what components our home page might need, we've included an example wireframe (available here). Please note that the wireframe is an example only, and does not need to be followed verbatim (we are open to seeing what kinds of layouts you guys can come up with). The example wireframe is included mainly to show examples of which components may eventually need to go on the page somewhere, and to serve as a jumping off point for you guys. Be creative!
For our homepage, we need the following basic components:
- Company logo
- Top navigation bar
- Main panel showing major features of NetNotations (annotate, organize, share)
- Login button
- Register button
- "Annotate this page" button* (although it doesn't have to say that on it)
- Footer
- Spaces to put miscellaneous items (announcements, etc.). See wireframe for examples.*Clicking the "Annotate this page" button will display several pre-made annotations on the page to show the user how NetNotations works. It's basically a "try me first" button to convince the user that our product will be useful to them before they register.
Possible content for Miscellaneous sections: - Additional features of NetNotations
- Tasks made easier with NetNotations (shopping, research, blogging…)
- Screenshots (we don't have any screenshots yet, but feel free to use these as placeholders.)
- Blog updates
- Anything else?Hopefully this is enough information to get you started on some great designs. We will be very responsive as the contest progresses so that we can clarify any questions that arise.

As a side note, we will be contacting the winner of this contest to see if they are interested in further design work to help us flesh out a few other parts of our site.
