About us

Partsbook is a listing service/marketplace for heavy industries like railroad, marine, power generation, helicopters, mining, etc. We allow sellers to list products they sell in a number of categories and buyers to find those items by browsing categories or directly entering the part number.

Inspirational websites

Reddit, Delicious, Craigslist, NY Times, Google+: All do really well with simple color choices and hyperlinks (basic blue/purple links). RailFood.com: strong graphical presentation with the freight train + ability to showcase benefits/value proposition to non-logged in users while still providing some functionality. MyCharityWater.org Great combination of simplicity and graphics

I'm looking for a front page design. Right now we have railfood.com which exists only for the railroad industry. We'll be combining it with the similar sites we have for other verticals into one destination site. The average user of this website is 50-70 years old so keep the designs clean and simple. There are 4 main parts of the front page: 1. Navigation (5-6 items such as login, register, products, companies, messages, etc) 2. Search 3. Categories and Verticals 4. Other notes

1. Don't take the layout image I uploaded seriously.. it's only purpose is to show what kind of data you might see. 2. The logo will be something similar to the railfood logo but with the word "partsbook" instead. 3. It would be nice to have a message indicator on the front page (similar to Facebook) that shows number of messages waiting for the user. This could be part of the navigation. 4. In my upload, I'm showing 5 verticals + Other but you can show fewer (minimum 2 + Other) or more if it works with your design. 5. I again want to mention the demographic here is 50-70 year old males. Complexity and cuteness is your enemy. 6. My preference is for the design to look good with basic html hyperlink styling (blue links, purple visited, underline when hovering).
