Sites I like: * http://www.getboards.com/ - this is my definition of a "modern looking" website. Rather than boring square boxes it has design lines overlapping, I love the background to the left and right of the main site, what I like most about this site is the jagged black edges that separate the background image (of the blue sky) from the middle content section of the website. * http://www.eurocarparts.com/ - I like the trust builder under the header (why shop with us). Also I like the additional trust builders at the bottom of the home page (the we accept, and secure shopping logos) I was thinking perhaps incorporating some of the trust logos shown in OUR footer on this page: http://www.delonixradar.com.au/hid-xenon/car-hid-lights/h1/std/35w/ * http://www.autozone.com/autozone/ - I like the clean lines, rounded edge boxes and lots of imagery. i know this is somewhat different to the first site listed above, but is there a way to marry the two?? I like the rotating larger image showing specials and the smaller image boxes showing specials, offers etc. I like how the colour behind the horizontal navigation has the same pattern to the right of the link hot deals that matches the part of the logo. That being said the colours don't match our site/logo (grey, white, red, black), there are no "trust building" factors and I DONT like the header of this site - too plain. * http://www.krishinc.com/images/big-commerce-live-stores/big-img/discount-boater-supply-img-popup.jpg - I like this, but I think what I like the most about it, is the use of great imagery. * http://www.crutchfield.com/ - I really like the design of the header and footer of this site....in fact I have emailed my team and asked them what they think about using the same tabs in the header (shop, research, support) * http://www.revzilla.com/ - great trust builders (why shop with us) * www.skysguideservice.com - "The Sky’s Guide Service page is a perfect example of how to build a hierarchy within a site. Notice how all the most important information is immediately visible, including the menu, shopping cart, login, and contact information. Less immediate information is placed below the fold — just a single scroll away." Sites I DONT like: * http://www.buypartsby.co.uk/ - too busy, hate the scroll box in middle of page. * http://www.autopartswarehouse.com/ - header is too busy * http://www.buyautoparts.com/ - is OK, but layout is a bit boring. It "feels" like a run of the mill large chain store rather than a specialised niche parts store/site. I do like how they have people in the rotating image * http://www.rhdjapan.com/ - too many products listed on home page
We are looking for a fresh new design of our website home page. It needs to look modern, slick, professional, and although a shopping cart type of website, I don't like sites that are too "busy" without a clear direction of where the customer clicks next.
http://www.practicalecommerce.com/articles/3104-Lessons-from-the-Amazon-Redesign Lesson No. 1: Clean Is Better than Cluttered The new Amazon site compartmentalizes navigation; uses light, subtle colors; and features long, unbroken lines to appear less cluttered than it was before the redesign. Examples of this clean versus clutter appearance can be found in the page header. Previously this section of the site had a heavy blue line, glossy orange header, and significantly more text, including the navigation. Lesson No. 2: Highlight Search Search is, perhaps, the most important navigation feature on a retail website. Lesson No. 3: Include a Content Slider A content slider allows a retailer to show shoppers products, specials, or information in a visually appealing way. The sliders require user interaction and have tool tips associated with the labels. Lesson No. 4: Details Make a Difference Perhaps one of most visually impactful changes to the Amazon site is the inclusion of small, subtle design details like shadows. For example, the flyout navigation menu seems to float over the reset of the page, giving the site the appearance of greater depth. Other notes: * Live chat option shown clearly * we are changing from "delonixradar" to "delonixauto" * above the fold 600px is most important (before they scroll) in communicating the message Good luck, I am excited to see the result.
