Accounting & Financial
We are an energy news site and the purpose of this page is to get people to click on our premium article links , view other articles and share our content via social media. Our target audience is resource investors and energy industry professionals.
Please take a look at the homepage - as that will give you an idea for the article page we are looking to have designed. So we are NOT looking for a homepage design - we are looking for our article pages to be re-designed. For example: http://oilprice.com/Energy/Crude-Oil/Who-Is-Buying-The-Islamic-States-Illegal-Oil.html
We want something pretty far removed from this: http://oilprice.com/Energy/Crude-Oil/Who-Is-Buying-The-Islamic-States-Illegal-Oil.html. It looks dated and not very professional to me - from the font of the words to the general layout. We want the article page to do a number of things: 1) Highlight our premium services (if you look at the attached design examples - which are not what we are looking for but can maybe help guide you.) a) Right hand column next to the article text with links and pictures) b) at the bottom of the article have links to our special reports - these should look much better than they currently do as at present they just remind me of the standard Taboola ads and we want to be as far removed from them as possible. c) Within the text there is going to be a small box with info on our free newsletter or a free report - or something - it will be text - so please come up with some ideas here - for this bit you can get creative. 2) PLEASE READ THIS IF YOU ARE COMPETING: Possibly have an image at the top of the article - or not. Please take a look at all the attached designs - you will see three - two with images and one without - I'm not set on any of them - but if you do submit designs it would be good to see one with the image and one without. Here is what I think of the attached designs: 99d-1: Looks fairly nice and clean with the image - but the problem we have is that we don't have an AP feed or Getty Inages account - so the images will not be the best or the most relevant. This could be a major downside - but if you can come up with some ideas to make this shine then great. I don't like how the author is below the piece and there is a huge amount of white space - this is a huge waste - maybe social media icons here - or maybe not. The social media icons on the right look okay - but they aren't sharp. Maybe have these below and the author details on the right hand side. The social media icons on the left look WEAK - really not good at all - this needs to look great, funky and enticing for people to click. The grey bok in the center of the article looks terrible and dull. It should look enticing, interesting and make people want to click. The second column with the Oilprice Premium articles looks okay - but not out of this world - it needs work. At the bottom of the article - the Special Reports section should really look good but at present it's like Taboola and very weak. 99d-2: has potential - but just looks weak in it's present form. The social media icons below the picture look terrible. Having the author spot here by the picture could work - but it all looks a bit confusing at present. 99d-3: Has potential - but just doesn't work in it's current form - I think it's the social media icons that are putting me off. 3) If you look at the right hand side of the example designs you will see where we have our commodity prices and banner ads - this column is okay - but if you have any good ideas it would be nice to see them. 4) On the left hand side the social media icons look terrible - they really need to look modern and VERY professional. This is not a time to get funky and creative - we are looking for something solid that will appeal to a professional audience and high net worth investors.
What to avoid
Designs I like - and maybe things should be taken from: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/cenk-uygur/what-has-obama-done-for-y_b_5939762.html - Neat looking http://www.businessinsider.com/gt-advanced-files-for-bankruptcy-oct-6-2014-10 - social media icons look good http://www.theatlantic.com/business/archive/2014/06/no-record-breaking-world-cup-ratings-dont-make-soccer-a-mainstream-us-sport/373216/ - nice feel to it http://www.telegraph.co.uk/earth/environment/10916086/The-scandal-of-fiddled-global-warming-data.html - professional looking but a bit scrappy http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2665840/Care-home-staff-filmed-called-79-year-old-dementia-suffer-nasty-old-bitch.html - layed out very well - but needs work.
This is a very selective and critical audience of Professional investors and industry sector executives - it needs to look very professional and engaging.
