charles-rt got their new web page design by running a design contest:
Tech Venture Studio Looking for Striking Website

Canadian quest lab. We partner with entrepreneurs, startups, and enterprises to launch, grow, and innovate.
We'd like our website to be eye catching, modern, and responsive (should work well for mobile). When we handout our business cards, people are typically really impressed and say so. We want that feeling to extend to our website. When someone in our audience visits our website (entrepreneur, startup, or enterprise client) we want them to be very impressed. We want them to want to work with us, and know that they will get equally awesome results in return. Some examples of similar businesses and their websites are below. We prefer a darker colour theme, with at least one warm colour. I've also attached our logo and some of the colours we already have in our colour palette. FYI our name "Railtown" is a neighbourhood in Vancouver, BC Canada where our HQ is located. We'd prefer to stay away from train and railway photos. We're looking to inspire technological innovation and creativity here.
4 DIFFERENT PAGES ARE REQUIRED, this is not just a one page website. The pages are: (1)Homepage, (2)Programs-->Quest Lab, (3)Team, (4)Portfolio ⭐️⭐️⭐️(1) Homepage ⭐️⭐️⭐️ I've split the homepage into 2 sections. (1a) The Top which is the most important eye catching spot. (1b) 'Other Sections' are essentially just previews of the other pages of the site. ⭐️(1a) Top section - This hero section should be the super eye catching piece. Our logo, headline, and something really eye catching and awesome should be on the first fold. Perhaps something 3D or animated. We like some of the animated backgrounds from the inspirations websites for NEXT Canada, Bruno Simon, or something like the React Three Fiber examples. We're very open to creativity here :) It also needs to be clear what the user should click on from here, so incorporating a nav menu with clear call to actions is important. A nav menu of some sort would be great, open to ideas here as to how to make the CTAs stand out from a normal nav. The important CTAS are: "I'm an entrepreneur", "I'm an investor", and "I'm a corporation" The other nav items are the other pages: Programs, Team, Portfolio, Blog. Note: 'Programs' has 4 sub pages of Quest Lab, Incubator, Accelerator, and Intrapreneurship. Possibly more in the future. So this will need a little menu or something. ⭐️(1b) Other sections - The layout here is up to you, but as a user scrolls the homepage, we imagine seeing previews of the other pages on the site. - What We Do - Similar to our current site, we'd like an area to highlight and briefly describe what we do, with links to the pages for each of our programs (Quest Lab, Incubator, Accelerator, Intrapreneurship) - Portfolio - Here we'd like to uniquely display some of the companies in our portfolio, using logos and some descriptions. The viewer could click through to the main Portfolio page to see all the companies. In this section we may also include some quotes or testimonials from some of the founders and companies we work with. - Bottom/Footer - We'd like to incorporate a simple yet unique contact form, for people to very easily get in touch with us. The CTA for this could live elsewhere on the site, but could hot link to this simple form. Something with input for their name, email, and a little text section to enter a message. ⭐️⭐️⭐️(2) Programs —> Quest Lab⭐️⭐️⭐️ (The Programs pages will all be similar, just different content, so we're only asking for one design here.) - Description of our quest lab, and how it works. - Links to some of the industries we are currently in, and some of the companies involved. - We need a way here for people to contact us if they are interested in working with us, ideally the same simple contact form as the footer of the homepage. ⭐️⭐️⭐️(3) Team ⭐️⭐️⭐️ Ideally this page can show both the Railtown team, and its advisors. - Railtown Team - Photos and small bios of each person on the Railtown team. Right now there are just two on the website, but those are just the founders. There are many to add. - Advisors - These are people who advise Railtown and its companies, who we would like to be on the site with a photo and small bio, but they are not full time Railtown team members, so we'd like to have a separate section on this page somehow. - This page should also have the simple contact form. ⭐️⭐️⭐️(4) Portfolio ⭐️⭐️⭐️ - Portfolio Company Profiles- We'd like this page to be a unique showcase of all the companies we have built or work with. Their logo, maybe a photo, a small bio, people involved, and a link to their website should be here. There are many examples of creative ways to do this in the inspiration websites. Ideally we'd have a page for each company in order to direct people there, but it would be nice if it were done in a way that was a pop-up or slide-in such that the viewer could easily click around each portfolio company and learn about each without having to reload and go back and forth a bunch of times. - Another section for testimonials, to highlight quotes, blurbs, and testimonials from people we work with here. - This page should also have the simple contact form.
What to avoid
It would be nice to use original artwork, and avoid stock images, but some stock images are ok. We'd prefer not to use stock images with people in them in the first fold, as we want the focus to be on technological innovation and impact. Stock images with people can feel too corporate. We'd also like to stay away from trains and railway imagery.
I've attached the Railtown logo with each of the colours currently in our palette. We'd like to see some other colours added in, preferably at least one warm colour. I've also attached our business cards for a bit of inspiration.
