Jmichaelsimpson got their new web page design by running a design contest:
The Spartathenian Chronicle (thespartathenianchronicle.com) needs a new website design

The tag line of this website is "Cultivating Excellence in Body and Mind, Aspiring to the Life of a Warrior Sage". My target 45+ males, and to a lesser extent, females. Essentially it is a combination authority blog, with an e-store selling exercise equipment, supplements, Chinese Herbs and super foods, workout gear with the Spartathenian Logo along with info products on health, anti aging and brain training. In other words, fitness and lifestyle support for the intelligent and intellectually curious The idea is to encourage the pursuit of high levels of accomplishment in fitness and health as well as continued mental growth into middle age and beyond. It will be a hopeful and inspiring alternative to grandpa on the Nautilus machine. Six pack abs in your 70's kind of thing, but also intellectually interesting. Hence the combination of Sparta and Athens in the name, and the reference to the "Warrior Sage" I intend to create a membership program entitled "The Spartathenian League" that will be a coaching and accountability program for people wanting to do amazing things for their age (or any age) and who want to transcend the social presumptions about aging by creating a new paradigm in which the symptoms of aging are postponed through continuing physical and intellectual engagement. My target market is the middle aged individual, or approaching middle age, who is starting to decline and needs support to move gracefully and robustly into the next phase of life and push the limits of possibility instead of accepting decline. He (or she) is intelligent and reasonably accomplished with a high level of intelligence, but with a need for accountability in certain areas of life, kind of like Oprah, who is highly accomplished, but can't keep the fat off. The design has to be appealing to discerning and sophisticated tastes so it stands out from the schlock and keeps viewers around.
I want to incorporate statues of King Leonides of Sparta and Socrates of Athens in my header/logo as a metaphor for my theme. The design should be kind of Greeky. I don't want to emphasize the fitness aspect over the mental/slash intellectual as the whole idea is that they are equally important. In other words, a combination of the body and spirit of Leonides and the Spartans with the mind and love of Truth of Socrates and the Athenians. With the graphics creating an equal balance between the body and mind aspects. There are some classic statues of the two of them that could be used. They can be googled. I think the design should be sort of "ancient", possibly including images of ruins, with a worn and weathered texture, not too dark. I am open to other ideas as well but that is the general picture.
Home Page: Introduction to the theme with some awesome graphics and typography in the header and tagline as well as links to products etc, link to the blog, maybe the most recent blogs, usual blog stuff. I don't have a completely clear concept of other pages and would probably want to work further with a designer to flesh it out.
What to avoid
Can't think of anything at the moment. Cheesy graphics I guess.
I really want some super duper original eye popping, mind blowing graphics that keep people on the page long enough to draw them into my content.

RODE dizajn created a very cool logo for a new arm of my business. Roko was very easy to work with. He listened to our requests, suggested great new ideas, and turned around changes quickly! I would definitely work with him again!
Along the way, they met lots of talented designers…
