hear a lot these days about fiduciary duty, what is that, who is a
fiduciary? Very simply, when somebody
takes on the responsibility of managing your money and is not ultimately held
accountable, they are not a fiduciary. Everyone
should insist on working with a fiduciary.
Unfortunately the industry is not built on looking out after clients'
best interests, despite what they say on TV or in their brochures. It's hard to tell between those you can trust
and those who are simply giving lip service. If you are not sure ask, ask them to sign a
piece of paper accepting full fiduciary duty and responsibility for your
affairs. I'll bet you that things get interesting at that
point. Don't stop there, ask them to
explain all the ways they can potentially be compensated in dealing with your
accounts. It's eye opening when you
begin to understand this.
