Scrappy Apple is a scrapbooking supply store based out of the La Crete Apple Drugs. Scrappy Apple sells a variety of scrapbooking supplies, including paper, stickers, glue, stencils and scissors. Scrappy Apple is wanting to begin selling their products online, in addition to in store.
www.twopeasinabucket.com - we quite like this website. The only thing that we don't want to include on the site is the drop down menus, as we've had problems with usability in the past. The only other major change we'd make to the site is to make it somewhat less cluttered. Right now it's hard to focus on 1 element and somewhat hard to find the shop link.
The Scrappy Apple website is meant to sell products, show project ideas (gallery) and general contact and about us information. So, there will be 2 directions people can go on the website: (1) purchasing products or (2) viewing project ideas, hopefully directing them to purchase the products from Scrappy Apple. The 2 pages we'll need designed are the home page and the product listing. The home page will have a selection of featured project ideas and sale and/or featured products. There should also be a partial listing of categories. The home page should also have a set of scrolling images (likely built with http://flex.madebymufffin.com/). It should also have a mention of the "Scrappy Apple Guarantee" and all or a portion of "The staff at Scrappy Apple try their best to make certain the quality and speed at which you get your order, yet errors can take place. If the value of the error is less than $5.00, a credit will be issued to your account. If the value is more than $5, we will do our best to replace the damaged or missing product." The product listing will be a fairly simple product listing with one possible additional element: a clothes line. One idea is to have the products hanging from a clothes line. This idea could also be used in the header of the site. Products will be separated into categories and sub categories, so there needs to be space for category listing and also a search. Each product will have a name, photo, description and the possibility of a couple other fields, like part number or similar, although only the name and an photo will be displayed on the product listing. There should also be room to display the products currently in the cart. Pages similar to the product listing will also be used for the gallery/project ideas pages. The following should also be included in the design of all pages: - a login form - search box - category listing The design can include elements that are similar to a scrapbooking project, but at the same time this can't cause the website to be hard to use as a website.
One comment we've had regarding our current website (www.scrappyapple.ca) is that you have scroll to see the content. To solve this, it'd be best to keep the header as short as possible. Colours: we're open to ideas, but kinda thinking of a dark color, perhaps burgundy. Overall we want a fairly simple website that allows us to direct our customer's attention to our products and project ideas and allows them to get there quickly. I've attached some photos and a logo. The photos don't all have to be used in the website and you can also use photos from else where. These photos can also be used as place holders. Feel free to use stock images. We have an account with iStockphoto, which works best for us if you'd like us to purchase the images after. We would like to create the website using the 1140px grid (http://cssgrid.net/), so you can design for 1140px, but it needs to have the ability to shrink. Meaning the design should have room to compress to 960 (for 1024x768 monitor). We are not worried about going larger than 1140, but it'd be helpful if it could grow.
