carriehunsucker got their new web page design by running a design contest:

Accounting & Financial
We manage an investment fund comprised of accredited investors across the US and Canada. We value curiosity, non-conformity, and lifelong learning.
The fund’s name, Courant, comes from Benjamin Franklin (the great grandfather of all things value investing), who had his first job at the New England Courant (http://goo.gl/zYrbw0). An old newspapers theme, with subtle reference to Franklin (books, newspapers, writing, time, value, etc) would be cool. Font colors should pull from the green of the logo we have. We really love the Hemingway site, particularly this page: http://www.ernesthemingwaycollection.com/whats-new/ We love the Gates Notes' book sections. The little tab with "reviewed" on books where has written comments, linking through a different page, is exactly what we want to mimic. Our site would have four main sections ... LANDING PAGE: That's where we can have a banner and look that references the New England Courant related theme or something vintage & bookish. ADMINISTRATIVE SECTION, LETTERS, ETC: These pages should be very clean, with color and banner repeated from the landing page, but just well organized links with buttons to download legal docs and letters, either individually or all. BOOKS: The Gates approach with tiles for each book, with the little tabs for books that were reviewed is great: http://www.gatesnotes.com/Books and then a page for each reviewed book like this ... http://www.gatesnotes.com/Books/The-Rosie-Project (but without repeating the additional books underneath, just the one review) PHOTOS: The photos from the annual dinners is then another key page. Basically what I like there is the look and feel of Smugmug. Gallery to the left, with picture and easy navigation arrows to the right. Just like this .... http://claudeleveille.smugmug.com/ and http://claudeleveille.smugmug.com/Mediterranean-2014/ All of that can be wrapped up in a look representing the New England Courant or vintage/bookish type look, with the appropriate use of the logo's green in text/graphics. Thanks! Carrie & Claude EDIT: I've created a list of images that are similar to what I feel would suit the manager's tastes and themes: News: http://www.gettyimages.com/detail/photo/newspapers-royalty-free-image/153449618 (Maybe something like this but a little less grungy? Or a collage of the New England Courant images?) http://www.gettyimages.com/detail/photo/grungy-newsprint-royalty-free-image/172172227 Libraries/books/knowledge: http://www.gettyimages.com/detail/photo/library-trinity-college-dublin-ireland-high-res-stock-photography/464658929 http://www.gettyimages.com/detail/photo/close-up-of-old-leather-bound-books-royalty-free-image/129945339 http://www.gettyimages.com/detail/photo/antique-books-in-lobjet-qui-parle-high-res-stock-photography/150382569 Time: http://www.gettyimages.com/detail/photo/vintage-watch-royalty-free-image/168715980 http://www.gettyimages.com/detail/photo/studio-shot-of-old-watch-parts-royalty-free-image/492644673 http://www.gettyimages.com/detail/photo/el-tiempo-royalty-free-image/469318135 http://www.gettyimages.com/detail/photo/close-view-of-an-antique-clock-face-high-res-stock-photography/482198077
We have a total of 7 simple pages on a Wordpress site: Welcome, About (Investment Philosophy), Administrative, Letters to Partners, Photo Gallery, Reading Recommendations, Contact. I'm assuming the theme and design can be implemented for one page and that it will extend to the other pages, so I'm not sure how many pages to indicate that we need designed. The fund manager considers himself a non-conformist, travels extensively, and loves Warren Buffett and Benjamin Franklin. This site should tell prospective investors about the fund, offer information for joining, and give an idea of the personality behind the fund.
What to avoid
Not too "corporate", or feeling like it's heavily comprised of stock-looking photos.
This site should attract contrarian, worldly individuals. We have a "no bozos allowed" policy. :)
