jack d got their new web page design by running a design contest:
Create a customer homepage that intelligently presents products

The particular page that I'm looking for is a welcome page for customers once they've signed in. Our customers are merchants who are completing compliance procedures. This consists of: A) Completing online assessments which are in a checklist format. B) Reviewing results from scans that we perform on their systems. Customers range from small shops to high-end ecommerce vendors. Other products address HIPAA for medical practices. We would like this site to apply for everyone.
Yes, but we are rebuilding it completely.
We have an internal framework that has the core functionality, but it lacks visual appeal. Our developers have come up with the following visual guidelines: Requirements: Support IE8+ and modern browsers on all platforms No popups No modal dialogs Top navigation bar Responsive design (consider mobile devices) Usable width 320-1024 pixels Suggestions: Prefer simplicity and elegance Gray/white color scheme (accent colors are acceptable) Square corners Flat buttons Minimal drop shadow no mirrored or glossy objects Contextual buttons for form submission
We want this page to look clean, modern and to impress without being cluttered or over complicated.
What to avoid
We don't want things complicated, and we don't want customers to be distracted when they come to this site. With that in mind, we also want to keep the number of clicks low, so that ease of use and simplicity are balanced.
This page is dynamic based on the customer's account. Customer might have content or products that require attention-- those are the wider item as seen in the provided screenshot-- and items that no longer require attention are smaller. The size can be adjusted if you feel you have a better idea. We're not married to this idea. We call the larger items "action items," because they require action from our customer. The customer should be able to easily see the status of their products and know which ones are action items and which are products that they own but do not require any action from them at this time. I have attached a screenshot of our original website that we are moving away from. It's the dark blue page that is awful and very unintuitive. I also have a screen shot from Trustwave, one of our competitors. I don't like much about this site either. I think the glossy, round corners are tacky and things are not clear as to what needs to be done for the user. I have screenshots from different accounts that show what things might look like with a different number of action items. Again, the main goal is for a visually impressive page that makes things overwhelmingly clear to the customer that they should start with their action items first. I've also attached a screenshot of our current beta for the main site. This site does not match up completely with the site being worked on in our group since the goals are different. The goal of that page is to provide product information and get new customers. The goal of our page is to simplify required processes (such as completing technical questionnaires) for existing customers.
