Australian Interfaith Directory
I'm an interfaith minister, which means that I've studied all the major (and many others) faith traditions in the world and been ordained by an interfaith seminary in New York, The New Seminary. I've discovered that all faith traditions are pathways to the experience of the great Divine, in whichever way people experience that - whether through Krishna, Buddha, Nature, Jesus Christ, Allah, Gaia, the Tao, Lakshmi, Mohammed, Jehova, Zen, Dreamtime, Bagwaan, Rama, Ek Onkar, Yahweh, Waheguru, Ahura Mazda, Agonz and about 1,000 other names of god/goddess/creator, gurus, practices and experiences (some say 6 billion!)
I'm creating the Interfaith Australia website as my personal contribution to peace and reducing the fear people seem to have about others' religious and spiritual traditions and practices. It will be educational, accessible and supremely interractive - but mostly it will be absolutely exquisite-looking. I want people to experience the many faces of the Divine by exploring the website. I want it to be so rich and gorgeous-looking that the technical aspects are seamless - it will be content-rich with loads of fascinating information, lots to see and do :- articles, festivals, workshops, faith-based tours and book, workshop & movie reviews.
Everybody who has realised that there's more to life than a career, relationship and money - although there's nothing wrong with those things. Anyone who is curious, likes to be informed, has a personal spiritual pathway or faith and who wants to know more about other religions and spiritual practices.
Look and feel:
I want the look to be rich, exotic and textured - lots of black/charcoal, gold, Chinese red, ochre papyrus and ancient texts (sacred texts are common to most faith paths and where they aren't, there's a strong oral tradition, so the use of words, religious symbols, characters or [perhaps Jewish] letters as a design element would be lovely - also take a look at the Crivelli painting I've uploaded for colours I'd like) Any photography/graphics should be exquisite (I've attached some examples - I can get the copyright to those. Particularly take a look at the Parliament of World Religions book for some great pics of people of different faiths)
The site should give the feel of the revelation of mystery to those with "eyes to see and ears to hear". I'd like it to be an exciting journey to explore and be immersed in - to be full of rich and interactive content, constantly changing and being updated.
1) About interfaith
2) button for information about each of the different religions and spiritual practices (enough room for around 20 major ones at first)
3) box for reviews - music, books, movies;
4) feature articles written by guest writers on spiritual/religious/ethics themes;
5) what's on - religious, cultural and spiritual festivals, worship services, international & national speakers, events, tours, workshops;
6) news feeds;
7) video (Youtube at first), audio (music, interviews, talks)
1) Wordpress blog - "Barefoot Minister" - talks about my experience of workshops, spiritual practices, cultural festivals, mystery schools, pilgrimages & rituals all over the world;
2) directory of Australian and international interfaith organisations with search function;
3) subscriber area and forum (moderated);
4) Sponsored links.
(this site is perfect from a content and functionality point of view but it's basically a news site, so it looks like one. I want far more beautiful graphics, look and style to give the feeling of love of the Divine.
(most of the content is here but I don't like the news-site/informational look)
(gives the symbols of the 6 major world faiths - these could be used to create a textured background, perhaps in a dark charcoal?)
(site of Australian television comparative religion program - uses the major faith symbols as a parchment-style background - quite nice. This site has all the functionality I want and is getting closer to the look and feel, but I want my site to be much more gorgeous - less informational-looking and more classical religious art)
(this was a fantastic exhibition, gorgeous pics of goddess statues, art etc - i loved the "send a goddess card" and the little interactive things ie "move your mouse over the image for an explanation)
(this is to give you some symbols, ideas, words, images...)
(lovely imagery, like the black background - the text isn't so good)
(I like the content on this site but way too many words - the images and graphics need to dominate)
(this is just to give you some images - a few sacred performances)
(I appreciate the philosophy and the content of the site and I want all the same functionality, but it's way too "cheery" and "friendly" in look and feel for me - I don't like the blue and white "clean" look and I don't want cheesy images of "nice" people doing "spiritual" things)
