ByrnesWoder needed a new other design and created a contest on 99designs.
A winner was selected from 110 designs submitted by 16 freelance designers.
Byrnes Woder is a quite new independent publisher. We've only got two writers in our stable at the moment, but they are both great and we are working with them to create not just books, but a viable and enjoyable lifeworkstylething.
But our design skills suck, as you will notice if you visit any of the Byrnes Woder sites. Sigh.
Target audience? People like us. People who like new ideas, fresh approaches, have an eye for quality, another eye for originality and an iPad, or an iPhone, iPod Touch or a Kindle, because this is for an ebook.
Jimmy did the first version of the cover for "One Dwarf Short" (preview PDF attached) in-house just to get the ebook onto Amazon and iBooks. Now we've been putting off plugging the book because the cover makes us cringe. Turns out commercial expediency is dirty little trap.
Anyhoo...
Deliverable 1:
A book cover, including spine, 6x9 aspect ratio, print and screen resolutions
(at least 2700pixels tall)
Title: One Dwarf Short
Subtitle (if you wish): Private Diviner - Episode One
Author: Jake Zablarski
Ebooks don't need spines, but we might do a 3D render one day.
Don't do a 3D render at this stage, just the cover image straight up and flat.
Design considerations:
It needs to be recognizable at thumbnail sizes
It has to look good on a Kindle screen (16 shades of grey)
It can't look like it belongs on the shelf next to "The Dragon Queen Chronicles". Can't.

Deliverable 2:
Desktop wallpaper based on Deliverable 1 in the following resolutions:
2560×1600 pixels (16:10 aspect ratio)
2560×1440 pixels (16:9 aspect ratio)
2560x1920 pixels (4:3 aspect ratio)
2560x2048 pixels (5:4 aspect ratio)
Deliverable 3 (optional):
An ongoing relationship for future book covers in this series
Style considerations:
We like Matthew Lyons, Paul Tebbott, Jon McNaught, Dan McCarthy, Steve Scott and lots more. See attached files.
