I want a vertical style timeline where each period is a new vertical line in a new color trending down. So the top of the graphic is the earliest years, trending down. Since there is period overlap, the lines will need to occupy their own horizontal space as they go up and down.
Here are some design examples:
This design is VERY VERY similar to what I want, but I want it vertical, not horizontal.
In the attached timeline file where I've noted dates, for periods where I have noted "peak" dates I want those to be denoted with a solid color, with any pre/post timeframe fading in/out with a gradient. Where I have denoted an author birthdate in the document I want the author mentioned specifically (as well as any listed books, separately), if I did not do so I am more interested in having the books listed mentioned. If there is no date attached on the document, you need not plot it.
Feel free to use any author photos posted on my site, online-literature.com you can also use your own icons or doodles, whatever kind of artistic bent you want to apply, for each plotted event.
The timeline dates need not be dimensionally accurate in the graphic. For instance, the medieval period covers 1000 years, but is unimportant and need not have 10x more space devoted to it than any other period.
