brian.speicher got their new app design by running a design contest:
Environmental Forecast Visualization
Check out brian.speicher's App design contest…
The app is intended to provide iPad users an opportunity to view forecasts of environmental phenomenon as contour maps over a given geographical area. Our organization will provide the forecast inputs. We need the visualization framing of those forecasts on the iPad, with tiles/menus that enable navigation through the forecast.
It is likely styled after the content displayed on the OnFarm and Climate Corp web sites, with the functionality of the FarmDog example (links below).
The first demo version likely has 2 screens - one displays the current weather forecast over a region, the second displays a pest forecast over the region. The app would be fed by pre-existing user information that identifies a specific geographic location and other specific agriculture metrics of the user. The forecast and forecast region just need to be visualized and navigated. Example weather visualization attached. The two app screens have a primary frame that display the geographic region of interest, and navigation tiles border the map. For the weather page, the tiles represent metrics such as temperature, wind, relative humidity, cloud cover, precipitation, solar radiation. On the pest forecast page, the same map serves as the primary content to be framed, and the border tiles represent different kinds of pests such as specific fungi and insects that I can download to the designer. For both screens, a scaling option should be on the border of the map frame, to allow a user to scale in and out as can be done on a Google map interface.
