webbeetle(.com.au)
webbeetle.com.au is the newly registered domain of a one person internet start up. The main focus of this business will be two-fold:
1. promote and sell websites created around a simple CMS written by BurgundySky.com,
2. offer web site maintenance and updates to small businesses who don't have the time/resources to do this themselves.
Why webbeetle?
I decided on the name through a reverse search. There seems to be no 'negative baggage' or current trade mark connected with the name, only the US .com domain is taken, but redirects to a company which doesn't pose any conflict.
My initial association was the classic VW Beetle, a simple a robust vehicle which is/was easy to maintain - just like the BurgundySky web sites. I have since developed some doubt (will VW bother me re trade mark?) but I still consider the VW an option. Otherwise most other beetles (insect world) seem to have a positive notion connected with them in peoples' minds.
Colour Scheme:
Currently I'm playing with two colour schemes for the web site; one is in shades of green with black text and some warm yellow and orange for highlights, the second is black and white with some burgundy-red shades. As I haven't decided yet this is not fixed.
I definitely do NOT want the over-used corporate blue and white, and with both my ideas shades of pink to lilac won't work.
Everything else is open to your creativity.
You can use 'webbeetle' as one word or as two: web beetle - this is up to you! I see NO need to include the domain extension ".com.au" or include any reference to Australia.
Current clients (of BurgundySky.com) are mainly small to medium businesses, from small retailers to craft people to hotels/motels.
!! Another significant group of clients are artists (paintings and sculpture) and writers, so it's important that the logo will appeal to 'arty people' !!
Last but not least several small community groups are using the system.
Part of the logo should be a clear symbol/emblem NOT based on typography, eg NO "wb"!
The emblem/symbol should be strong and stand out in it's own right. I prefer clear and bold (as opposed to intricate); brands like NIKE, APPLE, and WINDOWS come to mind... I would like to have a modern looking logo which doesn't date too quickly. Make it the shape of a beetle (car or insect) or something else... I do NOT want a generic emblem, which could as well sell insurance or a law firm!
The final logo should be either square or horizontal; vertical logos take up too much room on a web site.
Colours:
please read bottom of 'brief overview' 1st.
If you are using gradients or reflection/lighting effects please include a second version in flat colours (better contrast makes them easier to resize to very small). I do NOT want an upside-down reflection which became so fashionable with the Apple iPhone (I believe this is being over used and has dated already)!
Fonts:
I would like to repeat the typeface in some web graphics like buttons. Hence with final version I will require the font name and a download link. I prefer something affordable (~$25 max., better free, WINDOWS format).
The final logo
1. header for web site pages (= psd file)
2. for print advertising (an .ai or 300+dpi pdf file)
3. important: (part of) the logo as a 16x16 pixel favicon (please supply in your final version)
