Please read the following page to understand why the name Oystercatcher... it might provide some inspiration.
Looking for elegant simplicity... 2D, not 3D. Only use layering or color overlays for depth if any, but we are not looking for a 3D design. We enjoy the use of negative space to create subtle meaning, and we are looking for an abstract design that has a unique approach to provide meaning, but done in a simple and eloquent manner.
Inspiration elements (do not want just a recreation of these, but use the key elements of the attached images to draw inspiration from) include the black and white bird photograph on the front page. We are inspired by the big orange eye of the Oystercatcher bird, but that does not mean we need a circular logo that is an eye... could be, but doesn't need to be. We are also inspired by the bright orange beak of the bird, but given that we are a visual media company, the eye of the bird has been primary design inspiration.
OVERALL, the logo CAN resemble a bird in some manner, but certainly open to it being abstract in nature. The company's messaging uses the Oystercatcher bird as a connection point to it's characteristics, so keeping the bird as part of the logo (either in actuality or in reference) is important.
Our work is visual by nature, so something that is visually intriguing. We tell our clients messages, or stories, so we would like something that reflects this message in some way as well.
The orange "O" on our site is a very simple depiction of the eye concept, and while we like the simplicity of it, we would like something a bit more professional/unique.
Our existing cartoon bird logo feels a bit too immature and cartoonish for our company now.
Please see our site http://www.oystercatchermedia.com to see the current brand, but DO NOT create a modified version of this logo. We need an entirely new direction. Attachments are the current versions of our logo, but please remember that we are NOT looking to modify this but rather come up with an entirely new concept.
