The Lakefront 7s is the 3rd-largest rugby tournament in North America and attracts over 1000 participants every summer to the shores of Lake Michigan in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. The tournament is growing every year and is always sold out. We wan to expand the commercial success of the tournament by offering a more attractive advertising package to potential sponsors.
The tournament gets its name from Lake Michigan and the 7-man format of the tournament (i.e. Lakefront 7s). In fact, rugby sevens is a very popular style of rugby and will be included at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro.
We have two audiences: (i) local rugby players and other athletes who may be interested to try the sport and (ii) potential sponsors and advertisers who will primarily be from the greater Milwaukee area but also others from nearby cities such as Chicago and rugby vendors from around the USA.
We require a logo to represent the Lakefront 7s on our web site (http://www.lakefront7s.com) as well as on print media, banners, television coverage of the matches, etc... The logo can contain gradients and such but non-gradient and black/white versions of the logo are also required. One potential color scheme could be based on #F9D300 and #003E00.
The logo will consist of an icon and the text “Lakefront 7s” but will not include any inverted letters or any punctuation.. Together, it should capture a combination of some or all of the following: (i) the spirit and energy of the tournament, (ii) the speed and excitement of the game, (iii) the proximity to Lake Michigan and (iv) the concept of ‘seven’.
Final deliverables will include native Illustrator files and any fonts used in the creation of the logo. Please restrict font usages to open-source fonts available for Mac (OS X) and PC.
We are excited to see artistic license in this contest, but consider ‘rugby’ and ‘sevens’ important design concepts.
Finally, please note the exact spelling of the brand name (Lakefront 7s) which lacks any punctuation.
I have attached some existing logos to use for reference. The RBS Six Nations is an excellent example.
