We are a Scottish based quality woolens retailer. We are a web based start-up with plans to open a bricks and mortar store and eventually development of own brand product. Initially we are sourcing all product externally with the criteria that it must be UK manufactured (ideally Scottish) as we want to support the traditional farming and manufacturing industries based in this area.
Logo types to explore
I am looking for a word logo and also a pictorial logo which can be used together or independently to represent my brand. While the brand needs to be firmly planted in the traditional industires of farming and wool production of Northern Scotland, I also want the brand to have a contemporary feel making it relevent to today's lifestyle. I see my customer as an educated, professional 30s/40s couple with a young family. I hate to use the word "mill shop" as this has twee connotations of tartan (plaid) and shortbread but essentially we sell the products traditionally sold in these shops. Nostalgia and heritage are important to me - hence the name of the company. (A croft was a small piece of land worked by a tenant farmer). I like the idea of muted earth tones of the Scottish landscape - greens, blues, ochres, browns and purples. While not set in stone, I am thinking either a neutal black/brown/cream colour palatte to evoke the feeling of luxury (we have pure wool, scottish cashmere and sheepskin products) or a grey-green which will evoke both landscape and heritage. We also aim to be environmentally friendly in our practices - Natural products, biodegradable packaging, sourcing locally to reduce our carbon footprint, etc so green may be the colour to go for? I have included some pictures of the vernacular architecture of this part of scotland - picture 1 shows a typical "croft house". The pictorial logo should be based on these or similar images and be simple enough that it is easily recognisable while also being able to be reproduced on jumpers, scarves, etc as a small embroidered motif. (much in the same way that the polo player image is instantly recognisable on shirts as Ralph Lauren). I would also like to be able to use this image on bags in the retail store. The word logo"The Croft House" will be used on product labels, letter head and on signage. In summary the main things I want to communicate are: 1. Scottish Heritage 2. Natural 3. Luxury 4. A word logo and pictorial logo Please, no stock art or clip art. Any feedback or alternative suggestions on the above welcome! Looking forward to seeing your ideas.
