We've built a very clean dining and events guide in WordPress (Thesis theme) for our hometown of Rapid City, South Dakota. We're launching to the public January 1st and need a nice, clean, modern, sleek logo to go with it. We're a very small operation; a handful of reviewers going up against the local newspaper website.
Our site is a dining and events guide that uses locally-written reviews and a simple, easy-to-use calendar tool that we built ourselves. Hence, our audience is anyone who wants to use the Internet to quickly and easily find something to go out and do on any given night, weekend day, etc. The dining guide's target audience is obviously people who are planning where they'd like to eat.
Here are some requirements and direction regarding the logo:
1) The primary colors of the logo should be red and black, although you should feel free to try any accent colors you like.
2) We like simplicity, which you may have gathered from the fact that we use WP for the site. I considered letting the text-based header serve as our logo, but in the end it was decided that was a little too simple. I like smooth, modern, sans-serif fonts. I very much like very simple, Web 2.0-type designs.
3) The logo/header will be at the top of each page of this website; therefore, it needs to be very horizontal in nature. It doesn't need to extend the entire width of the web page, of course, but it does need to be very horizontal, by at least a 3 to 1 ratio, probably even more.
4) I think that the logo should be fairly text-centric, although accent illustrations are welcome. Cartoony, clip-art type illustrative elements are NOT what we're looking for.
Thanks very much for your offerings! We look forward to rewarding a great designer.
