How Scottsta started their logo design journey
SM Design Concepts Pty Ltd; smdesignconcepts.com.au; SMDC
I am an architural residental designer of 25+ years experience, predominantly working in-house for quality extension & new home builders. Two such builders have won or been shortlisted for awards in the Housing Industry Association & the Master Builders Association awards since 2000 for extensions built to my copyrighted designs. Referral /repeat business is increasing. I prefer to design in consultation with my clients, sometimes using my laptop live utilizing CAD software. Residential extensions of heritage buildings is my forte and is also a major requirement for a lot of local residents in my bayside council, owing to strict local bylaws. However many clients are able to do new homes, usually when the cost of a large extension forces a major rethink on cost effectiveness. Once this occurs some clients wish to look at other design options, usually more contempary and incorporating water tanks/green features, etc. I love designing and wish to do more contemporary work.
Tell us a bit about who you are and the people you reach
Usually a couple with/without kids with the financial clout to afford $200/250k+ to $600k extensions or new houses from $350k to $1m+.
A simple, clear, concise logo that gives the impression of the ability to provide a design, be it heritage or contemporary, extension or new home. The logo would be the basis for the website, business card and stationary. A watermark of a plan blueprint under the logo is a possibility; but don't let that stop an alternative approach. The SM in the coy name are my initials. It is also possible that, if necessary, I could register a new business name(owned by my coy ) more appropriate to your logo. Any typeface should be clear & bold , not too fancy. Use colors as you wish :- that color theme would be used on the website. Heritage colors are a possibility but not a necessity. No clipart or stock images please.
The logo attached was used by myself previously in another business, but obviosly limited opportunities beyond heritage homes. The logo should be available in as many formats as possible to enable printing & downloading; I'm no expert here.
Prefer something classy/elegent too appeal to my type of client. Don't use cartoon house images please.
