The Affects Department
We are a collective of film music industry professionals (composers, music supervisors, music editors, scoring mixers, and recording engineers) based in New York City that are building a website to establish a brand identity online and in print. Our recent credits include major releases "Across The Universe," "The Tempest," "Tropic Thunder," "The Runaways," "Public Enemies," and "Black Swan." We also work on independent film projects.
We do what we do because music often brings a motion picture to life.
After a film has been shot, the project moves into the second phase of production where it is edited, and sound and visual effects are created. During this stage, the music is composed and prerecorded songs are selected. The third stage, the music stage, is the most thrilling part of the process. Imagine watching a movie come together for weeks without music, and then right at the end of the process the emotional power of the picture emerges at the scoring sessions! The story, performances and identity of the movie all come together when the music is added. It becomes ultra-vivid.
Our company's mission is to create this thrill for our clients.
Our target audience are creative professionals in the Hollywood and New York City film industries - movie producers, production companies, directors, actors, screenwriters, composers, recording artists, music supervisors, and music editors.
Our image should move and inspire them to work with us.
Try this for an icon concept...
Attached in the brief for this contest are two posters. One is a Sonic Youth poster with an overhead view of a turntable with vinyl record album and tonearm. The other is an Explosions in the Sky poster with a singular eye and a tear. Try merging/overlapping the two images by having a vinyl record album be the iris of an eye. The tear in the Explosions in the Sky poster is also a good idea. The concept is obvious as it relates to our company's specialty: the eye represents the visual media of film, the turntable represents the music, the tear represents the emotional affect that is created when music and drama are juxtaposed.
Make sure that the look of the eye and the tear do not indicate either sadness or joy. Leave that interpretation up to the imagination of the beholder... Refer to the Explosions in the Sky poster to see the way that the eye and the tear are presented.
One last thing... The use of color and black and white in both posters is fantastic!
We also love the look and feel of the classic jazz record labels Blue Note, Columbia, Impulse, etc.
Feel free to work with the words: Affects Department, Affects Dept., The Affects Department, The Affects Dept.
Thank you and good luck!
