Raksha Ceramics is a startup business making and selling functional and ornamental ceramic ware. Amanda Thompson makes all products, and they are either hand built or thrown on the wheel, everything is handmade. I have a studio at home where I make the majority of the work.
Raksha is my middle name – it is the Hindi word for protection.
A brief little something about me:
I live on the Gold Coast Australia, I’m 41 woman (wife, mum and stepmum) and I was working in the film production, but since getting pregnant and having cancer at the same time, my priorities and path has taken a different direction since regaining my health. Looking to slow down and work a passion project, I turned to ceramics.
I am new to working with clay, but after some encouragement from other potters, I’ve decided to take the bold step of selling my work. I’d like to think of my work as unique, and contemporary. I try to steer away from the classic pottery look, but I’m working on that. I also sculpt cute ornamental strawberries ☺
You can find me on Instagram (@rakshaceramics), as I started to document some of my progress in this field, and am still working on refining my work before taking the plunge to sell it. And I want to be prepared with a logo!
