PROJECT DESCRIPTION: 1. I am creating a retail product line of home and decor; kitchen; baby and toddler items such as portable changing baskets, mobiles, and nursery decor; outside and garden -- pots, planters, and decor; handcrafted jewelry and wands. 2. Materials for the products: crystals, leather, stainless steel, copper, silver, silk, glass, wood, bamboo, ceramics. 3. Design styles for the products: elegant, clean, unique (without being different simply for the sake of being different) classic with a fresh edgy twist when possible. 4. Quality of products: Luxe with an underlying aspect of playfulness and joy. 5. Form should follow function. TARGET CUSTOMERS' AVATAR / BASE: 6. Who they are: People who appreciate great design and prioritize living their lives in as much flow with harmony as possible. They are young men and women, mothers, grandmothers, single, married, old, young. My target customers' age range is 16-95 who enjoy using unique and quality products and are willing to pay a little more for perceived increased value. 7. Where customers would use them: house in Maine, cabin in the mountains of North Carolina, Montana, or California, or a waterfront condominium in Miami (where I live) or a home in Palm Beach or Key West, also college dorm room and first home anywhere and new parents. 8. Price point: moderate to higher than lesser quality products. 9. Overall theme: Elegant simplicity and ease of living. The products should be functional and uplifting and create and enhance harmony and flow. ABOUT ME / INSPIRATION FOR THIS PRODUCT LINE: 10. My 2 grown daughters are very sensitive to chemicals and certain foods. Chemically treated fabrics and certain foods caused asthmatic attacks and digestion and skin reactions. To avoid these, I needed to carefully read labels and buy household items. We all try to live our lives in harmony with nature. 11. We love high style, great design, and quality. We never have wanted to compromise stylish, fresh, and elegant lifestyle choices to dull just to avoid chemicals. DESCRIPTION OF THE SIREN: 12. History of the siren: The sirens appear in the ancient Greek epic poem, The Odyssey, which depicts the hero's journey. (This plot frequently is used in novels, movies, and TV series.) After fighting the Trojan War for 10 years and winning, Odysseus, the king of Ithaca, and his men travel home by ship. Odysseus's faithful wife and son are waiting for his return. Odysseus must pass through many dangers -- tests -- to return home. One of those tests was defeating the Cyclops, the one-eyed monster. He did. The sirens are beautiful, irresistible, alluring mythical creatures, half bird, half human. They lived together peacefully on an island and didn't want anyone invading it. They sung a song so irresistible to every man passing by on a ship that the men would steer their boat to the sirens' island even though they knew they would die. The men knew their fate, but they were helpless to resist the sirens' song. When Odysseus became aware that his ship was approaching the sirens' island, he stuffed the ears of the crew members so they could not hear the sirens' alluring song and ordered the crew to tie him to the ship so he couldn't escape the bind until the ship was well out of danger of crashing on the sirens' island. Odysseus and his crew escaped and eventually returned home to reclaim his kingdom and his wife. 13. Description of the siren: She is effortlessly and naturally alluring without any special effort to attract, yet no man can resist her once he hears her song. ELEMENTS OF LOGO, WORDMARK, AND BRAND NAME - MY VISION: 13. Combine the classical description of the siren's effortless irresistible allure and danger with a modern, elegant style. I do not want the literal image of the bird-woman in the icon. 14. The contrast of "peaceful" and "siren" is meant to evoke a fresh, new, complex awareness -- compare this name to "spiritual gangster" -- this was my thought process coming up with the brand name. 15. Must convey a feeling of luxury and sophistication. Elegant design is simple, organic, harmonious, fresh, and never looks old. Think Knoll furniture, Chanel clothing and its products, Alessi, and Miele; also, white cotton or canvas slip covered sofas, classical Greek and Egyptian and indigenous South American and simple and historical European designs -- obviously an eclectic mix. I do not like trite or boring. I hired 99designs for an original, sophisticated fresh icon and wordmark. I want the logo and font for the wordmark to be sophisticated yet (if possible) convey a sense of whimsy and playfulness -- to demonstrate luxe, original, upscale natural elegance with a sense of playfulness. 16. I prefer a logo that combines an icon and the wordmark, but I am open to 2 different related items. Must be able to use on letterhead, other written materials, and packaging. FUTURE DESIGN NEEDS: 17. As I develop products, I will need business cards, insert cards, and outstanding packaging design to complete the luxe presentation and feeling of my products. We all know the excitement of unwrapping a product that's beautifully packaged. SUMMARY: 18. I want a sophisticated, playful, whimsical, elegant logo and wordmark in the perfect font so that the wordmark text and logo appear to belong together. 19. rcespedes was a total pleasure to work with. She read my brief. Not all the designers did that. She was responsive to the changes I requested to the image to make it more closely aligned to my original concept. She provided comments with each new image so it was seamless to communicate my thoughts with her because she shared her reasons for including or excluding certain elements so that I was able to view the image through her eyes and broaden and refine my own concept. And, I loved her concepts. They conveyed the feeling I wanted and appear to appeal to my target market. When I need another logo / wordmark, I will request that she enter the contest. If it's not already clear from this review, I wholeheartedly recommend her.
