AVGfunds got their new logo design by running a design contest:
Create a logo for Spike Ventures that'll really connect

Accounting & Financial
We are looking to create a logo for a Stanford University alumni venture fund called Spike Ventures. The name is referencing the golden spike, which was the last spike driven into the railroad tracks to connect the Central Pacific and Union Pacific railroads. Abstract icons that reference a railroad track and the golden spike are welcome, along with any other creative ideas. I've included some images to reference. We are looking to stay away from typographic logo designs. We would like a pictorial mark or abstract mark that uses yellows/golds, reds, or greens. Do not use the Stanford colors. The logo should work well shrunk down (favicon), on its own, and in black and white. The name of the fund should be on the right side and the icon on the left.
