Our New Year's Eve party is called First Night CNY at Lights on the Lake. It's a family friendly festival taking place in Central New York (Syracuse and the surrounding area). The party is aimed at a wide variety of people and will appeal to people of all ages. We want this event to last all evening/night and to be THE place people in Syracuse and the surrounding area go for their New Year's Eve entertainment.
The event has several elements to it. It will feature an opportunity to walk through Lights on the Lake. Lights on the Lake is a two-mile drive-thru holiday-themed light display. It will also feature live outdoor music all evening culminating with a performance from National Recording Artist Sean Kingston. At 11:59, famous Syracuse University basketball player Gerry McNamara will push a button that will drop a giant, illuminated orange ( Syracuse University's color/mascot is the orange). At the stroke of midnight, an extravagant fireworks display over Onondaga Lake will usher in 2011.
Tell us a bit about who you are and the people you reach
Lights on the Lake (the drive-thru holiday light display) has been around for many years, but the New Year's Eve party (First Night CNY) is a new concept. No one has ever tied Lights on the Lake into a New Year's Eve celebration. Lights on the Lake has always been its own separate event with nothing else surrounding it and no ties to New Year's Eve.
Our new event ( First Night CNY at Lights on the Lake) will target a wide-range of age groups. We want families with young children to feel comfortable attending but we also want 20-somethings and teenagers to have fun spending their New Year's Eve here. The event will also appeal to older people who don't have children in the house. We're trying to offer something for everyone so that everyone in our community will feel compelled to come to First Night CNY no matter how old they are.
Lights on the Lake is very well known in the market, so it is important for us to use the Lights on the Lake logo as part of the overall First Night CNY logo to showcase the location.
While the event is family friendly, it also needs to appeal to 20-somethings and teenagers, so we don't want it to look to "childish". It's all about New Year's Eve and having fun. This event is going to have a ton of different types of entertainment. We want the energy and excitement of the event to be portrayed in the logo. Nothing too dark.
The logo will be used on the Firstnightcny.com website. Please make sure to keep the logo clean and readable so that it can be read from a billboard as well.
I've attached our most recent "attempt" at this logo to give you an idea of where we were going... but we are by no means attached to this type of look! I've also attached the lights on the lake logo so you can use that in the design. The event is First Night CNY AT Lights on the Lake so it's important to incorporate the Lights on the Lake logo. The event is taking place at a famous park in our area. The lights display is put up throughout the park and the rest of the party takes place right next to the display in the same park.
