Petaheinsen got their new logo design by running a design contest:
Calling LOGO designers - premium children's clothing brand 'SPARROW'
Check out Petaheinsen's Logo design contest…
•Sparrow is a children’s clothing label •Sparrow refers to the small bird – this is quite a gender-neutral name, it does not really imply a male or female brand and provides room for growth •Sparrow’s clothes will mainly be sold through direct retail channel (online sales and offline sales through expatriate fairs/coffee mornings/open house sale), with the primary market the Expatriate ‘wives’ in Singapore – mainly from UK, Europe, USA, Canada, Australia, New Zealand •Clothing is manufactured in Indonesia •Currently only launching with baby girls (0-18mths) and big girls (1-8 yrs) clothing - the current lines for baby and big girls are very girly, light and summery cottons in florals and plain cottons with beautiful details such as hand crochet and hand embroidery; feminine and contemporary twist incorporating olden-day handicrafts still practised in Indonesia but in a modern and youthful style (hand crochet, hand embroidery, hand smocking details) •Goal is to launch boys line next year (2012) and also maternity line – for this reason, logo must have broader appeal than being just ‘girly’ to suit the current offering
Logo types to explore
I have looked within the ready made logo section - a couple of logos I like are: Baby Elephant (Bean Design) and BB (but a sparrow instead of pram), but cannot be childish (cheapens brand) Need to communicate premium nature of the brand •Primary market are the Expatriate ‘wives’ in Singapore, who are mothers of young babies and children – mainly from UK, Europe, USA, Canada, Australia, New Zealand; they appreciate the 'finer' things in life, logo must appeal to them and communicate 'premium' offering of Sparrow's clothing •To create a logo for Sparrow that will be used across all online and print collateral supporting the brand, including: Website Hanging clothing tags (pinned to clothes) Business cards Postcards (leave-behind reminders) Facebook page Local advertising •Most executions where the logo will have to appear require a landscape logo •Logo must be produced to sit on white background or coloured background (both options to be supplied). In most cases, the logo will sit on white background – but particularly online, the logo will sit in a coloured banner at the top of the website (the colour of this will depend on the predominant colour in the final logo selected), so the logo must work well reversed out •Must reflect a ‘retail’ logo – not corporate •Logo must work scaled-down to small size •Logo must work as a ‘device’ for branding and able to work on it’s own, perhaps a ‘container’ such as a scalloped (landscape) oval or circle could work well, with a symbol (relating to a Sparrow) within this; or a symbol for sparrow (bird) that sits well with the name SPARROW (not within a container if it holds well together) •Please include the word S P A R R O W within the logo (does not necessarily need to sit within container if this option is presented – can sit below if necessary) • Clothing labels (which are stitched into clothes) are produced already and font is BlairMdITC TT – typed as S P A R R O W (in this regard, I would like to keep the font within the logo consistent, so please continue with this font and single space between each letter). For the sake of the clothing label, these are grey font on white background – this allowed me to keep it open and simple, and develop the logo later (as labels were being produced in Indonesia with long lead-time, I had to make a decision on this and went for simplicity) • Ensure colours and design do not only reflect current ‘girls only’ line offering – 2012 will introduce boys and possibly maternity line, so must not alienate parents of boys. The introduction of the maternity line down the track does not bother me too much on the logo design and should not influence design too much, as maternity can sit well beneath a children’s brand as ‘mothers-to-be’ are in that headspace of all things baby/child Attached are two images that show some cute bird shapes that work for a sparrow. I am open to realistic bird shapes too, if it works well. I like the hand-drawn look too.
