Grantbrott got their new infographic by running a design contest:
Traumatic Brain Injury Statistics

Story to tell in the infographic
Need an infographic that makes the data on traumatic brain injuries more consumable. Make it visually appealing and readable. Should take the boring data provided and present it in a visually stimulating manner. Would also like to see accompanying visuals for other aspects of infographic such as the definition, and other areas of content mentioned later in design brief.
Data to include in the infographic
Would like the stats from the following pages visually represented with small text somewhere giving credit to source site. Traumatic Brain Injury Related Emergency Department Visits, Hospitalizations, and Deaths http://www.cdc.gov/traumaticbraininjury/data/rates.html http://www.cdc.gov/traumaticbraininjury/data/rates_bysex.html Traumatic Brain Injury Emergency Department Visits http://www.cdc.gov/traumaticbraininjury/data/rates_ed_bysex.html http://www.cdc.gov/traumaticbraininjury/data/rates_ed_byage.html http://www.cdc.gov/traumaticbraininjury/data/dist_ed.html Traumatic Brain Injury Related Hospitalizations http://www.cdc.gov/traumaticbraininjury/data/rates_hosp_byage.html http://www.cdc.gov/traumaticbraininjury/data/rates_hosp_bysex.html http://www.cdc.gov/traumaticbraininjury/data/dist_hosp.html Traumatic Brain Injury Related Deaths http://www.cdc.gov/traumaticbraininjury/data/rates_deaths_bysex.html http://www.cdc.gov/traumaticbraininjury/data/rates_deaths_byage.html http://www.cdc.gov/traumaticbraininjury/data/dist_death.html Highlight these facts: Leading Cause of TBI Data shows that falls are the most common cause of traumatic brain injury for children from the ages 0-4 years old and in adults 75 years old and older. The data also reveals that the frequency for these two age categories and traumatic brain injuries is increasing. Car accidents and other vehicle crashes and traffic incidents among all ages results in the largest percentage of traumatic brain injury deaths at 31.8%. (Data provided by Faul M, Xu L, Wald MM, Coronado VG. Traumatic brain injury in the United States: emergency department visits, hospitalizations, and deaths. Atlanta (GA): Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, National Center for Injury Prevention and Control; 2010.) Most TBI hospitallizations and deaths occur to older adults ages 65 and older.(Data provided by National Hospital Discharge Survey (NHDS), 2006–2010; National Hospital Ambulatory Medical Care Survey (NHAMCS), 2006–2010. All data sources are maintained by the CDC National Center for Health Statistics.) The leading cause of child maltraeatment deaths in the United States is from Shaken Baby Syndrome(SBS) which is a form of abusive head trauma(AHT) and infliced traumatic brain injury(ITBI).
Elements to include in the infographic
Would like to see icons/illustrations for the different causes of the injuries. So for falls maybe an icon/drawing of a person falling off a ladder, etc. I would like to see a intro paragraph defining TBI. A spot with symptoms of TBI. Another spot for related injuries. And a spot for levels of brain injury - Mild, Moderate, Severe (http://biau.org/types-and-levels-of-brain-injury/) At the end a spot for Learn More that links to the following sites: http://www.cdc.gov/TraumaticBrainInjury/ http://dvbic.dcoe.mil/ http://www.biausa.org/
Symptoms and related injuries can be pulled from the attached file. Open to out of the box thinking on this, want something eye catching.
