The essential message is that the parking industry is going to irrevocably change as autonomous vehicles become more prevalent.

Some of the key notes to hit are:
An AV revolution is coming
Companies are investing enormous amounts of resources into this burgeoning industry because AV transportation will be so dramatically superior to existing methods of transport.

Once AVs are available, they will quickly become the predominant transportation force
AVs will take 5-10 years or less to reach 90% adoption levels once a viable, safe, and reliable version becomes available

AVs will disrupt the existing parking industry
Once completely adopted, AVs will cause a 40-60% decrease in parking demand
88-95% decrease in demand for street parking
Up to 22% decrease to surface lot and centralized parking demand.
City parking will need to start thinking of their parking as something closer to a capacitor (short term storage and quick release) rather than a battery (long term storage and slow release)
AVs will want parking that is
Close to the passenger.
Quick to enter and exit.
Low cost.

Parking owners will have to respond to this change
Parking owners will have the choice to:
*Adopt* new parking management technology to enhance the consumer experience
*Adapt* their existing infrastructure by changing its purpose
*Abandon* owned assets by selling the business or liquidating the land before the market depreciates

New sensors and parking technology will enable a new era of data-driven decision making, improved customer experience, and vehicle-to-infrastructure communication.

Some of the key data points organized roughly by the headings they fit well with:

There are about 800 million parking spaces in the U.S.
There is enough parking in the U.S. to cover the entire state of Connecticut in asphalt and lines of paint

AVs will quickly become the predominant transportation force
The rate of technological adoption is getting faster - it took 90 years for the telephone to reach 90% adoption, it took only 9 years for the internet to reach that same level. (See chart on page 21)
The cost of an AV trip will be 7x cheaper compared to a New York Taxi, and 30% cheaper when compared to the costs of traditional vehicle ownership
According to the US Bureau of Labor Statistics, the average age of a vehicle in the United States was 10.1 years old in 2017

AVs will disrupt the existing parking industry
A single AV can replace 6.7 existing vehicles on the road in a typical U.S. city
McKinsey & Company estimates a reduction in the need for parking space in the United States by more than 5.7 billion square meters [2,200 square miles].
With AVs fitting into parking spaces with only inches between them, parking spaces will eventually shrink from a traditional 9.0-foot width to 6.5-foot wide berths
47.1 billion square-feet are dedicated to street parking today
