Sword In Stone Pedestal for Monument Project.
Check out dmoorcroft94's Illustration or graphics contest…
We are a committee who organized to fund raise for a civic monument recognizing the tradition and legacy of Decorah (Iowa) high school football legacy and tradition. Decorah is a town with strong Norwegian heritage, so the monument will be loosely inspired by the 'Sverd i Fjell' (sword in stone) monument in Norway.
What's your vision?
We would like a polished rendering of a sword hilt sticking out of the top of a pedestal. The pedestal will have the Decorah High School Viking logo on it and 'Legacy Of Champions' either in the design or outside the pedestal. See images for elements for guidance. Also, attached is an overall sketch of the proposed monument design with the a taller pedestal in the middle.
The sword hilt will be made of bronze and will appear to be inserted in the pedestal with about 1/3 of sword sticking out of the top. The hilt/handle can be inspired by the largest sword of the 3 shown in the attached image, maybe with 'D H S' in the grip or handle. Updated comments 1: A few adjustments: 1. The back middle monolith does not have the sword in it. The sword should replace the football in a shorter stone pedestal with the football embossed in bronze on the front of the pedestal (see newer images). 2. All 3 back elements should be the shape of wide obelisk with narrower sides (see updated image), with the middle one being the tallest (as currently shown in your rendering). 3. The back 3 obelisks will be polished black granite, again, in the shape of an obelisk (see more recent image for a reference). Thank you. Great interpretations submitted so far. Thanks for the inspiration and work put into this! Updates 2 based on submitted designs: 1. The obelisk shapes in back 3 elements will be wider on the face and narrower on the sides. 2. Each obelisk will have the following labels at the top as follows from left to right. Left - 'TRADITION', Middle - 'CHAMPIONS', Right - 'LEGACY' 3. The outline of the state of Iowa will be on the front of the left and right obelisks. The middle obelisk will have the Viking logo and the following below the logo: 'State Champions' 1974 1987 1988 1989 2012 2. The sword replaces the football on the front pedestal. The football will be bronze low relief image on front of pedestal. 3. The overall base is comprised of brick pavers will be level with the ground. 4. Placing the overall image with grass and sky background is a nice touch, as it gives visual context.
