We are a research group out of Dartmouth College that works to improve health communication. We are running a study right now creating a conversation aid for older adults who are choosing whether to continue getting repeat colonoscopies or not. Our main target audiences for this competition are older adults aged 65+ and their primary care providers.
What's your vision?
We are looking for a design of a one-page conversation aid (attached) that will be used with older adults (65+) that are considering getting a repeat colonoscopy. Older adults will use this conversation aid with their doctors to help facilitate a conversation about which treatment option the patient will choose: colonoscopy or no colonoscopy. We would like to include some images in the conversation aid, including bar graphs for the statistics that are presented. The target audience is (1) adults 65 and older who have had a history of colon polyps and (2) their health care providers. At a minimum, we would like included the items below: 1. Four different bar graphs to represent this data: ● 10 of 1000 people (1%) will develop colon cancer in the next 10 years (colonoscopy) ● 20 of 1000 people (2%) will develop colon cancer in the next 10 years. (no colonoscopy) ● 28 of 1000 people (2.8%) tested will be harmed (colonoscopy) ● 0 of 1000 people (0%) will be harmed (no colonoscopy) We have attached examples of bar graphs illustrators have created in the past for our projects, but please be creative in your bar graph illustrations. 2. We would also like one illustration comparing a small colon polyp to a large colon polyp. Attached is an image that can help guide the illustration. 3. We would like the conversation aid to fit on one page with the text we provide in the attached document and a tabular format. You can adapt the layout and format of the table to what seems most usable and aesthetic to you. It is, however, essential that it fits on one page (front and back works) with a size font 12 minimum. We typically use an Arial or Calibri font. Please note: We would like the final one-page document to be available as an editable PDF document and an illustrator file.
For a color theme throughout the conversation aid, please feel creative with color. However, there does need to be good contrast in the illustrations in case the conversation aid is printed out in black and white. Please avoid red/green next to each other for those who may be color blind. For the bar graphs, we would like to have the colon cancer awareness color represented. I have attached a picture.
