Need Creative Artist for Left-Wing Political Book Cover (FULL DETAILS INSIDE)
Check out danielpisani12's Illustration or graphics contest…
THIS IS NOT A POSTER. This will be an illustration that will become the design as part of the cover of a book. The book is 6" wide by 9" tall; the number of pages will be 575 to 625, so about 1.5" I will have someone else create the actual book cover, but please respect the general spacing principles. I've drawn a basic idea of the layout, attached in this brief. Don't worry about creating the cover as a final product; the design is most important. Title: Kicking and Screaming - An Ex-Reactionary's Guide to Pulling Moderates, Middle-of-the-Road Americans, and Potential Radical Right-Wingers Towards Compassionate Politics **Author**: Daniel A. Amerson **Author biography**: This blurb will not be included on the book cover. However, I am a left-winger (i.e., social democrat) who once fell for the right-wing populist/centrist talking points. **Book description**: This is a political book, directed towards political moderates and mild conservatives, attempting to pull them to the left-wing. It includes my story for how I first moved to the right-wing, then how I came back. The rest of the book is filled with arguments, analogies, and statistics to try to convince them to do like me, and to become a progressive. **Target audience**: This book might be read by liberals, but the target is the American internet-savvy young man - 18 to 30 - who is familiar with internet politics and meme culture. They live in the United States or have an interest in American politics. **Book cover type**: Paperback
What's your vision?
VERY DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF BOOK COVER - PLEASE READ: ******Please consider this project if you are politically left-wing and understand internet culture and internet politics.****** My book is a political book I'm still working on the book, but I'm likely to finish by this week, so the spine might be a tad wider or more narrow. I want one giant motif across the entire book cover; the political "left" and "right" are represented by the front cover (for right wing) and the back panel (for left wing); the spine is the "center". The book cover is meant to portray somebody, who is hypnotized by right-wing propaganda, getting dragged by left-wingers (with rope) over to their side. The person has visible "hypnotized eyes" and is fighting back; he wants to crawl to the right-wing crowd. There are also two crowds; the right-wing crowd is on the right of the front cover, and the left-wing crowd is on the left of back cover. When you open up the two covers, it should look like a continuous image. DRAWING/DESIGN SKILLS ARE IMPORTANT, as I have specific requests for how the crowd looks. The title, "Kicking and Screaming", connects to that motif of dragging someone to the left-wing. ****The style can be reasonably similar to the "Cyanide and Happiness" comics; simplistic, yet has enough details to distinguish between people. You can choose a different comic style if you think it works better.**** I've included an attached image of a drawing of the cover, with a general layout of what I'm looking for. No need to be literal about the fonts in my drawing; this is meant to give you a sense of the placement of elements. The most important elements of this book cover will be the crowds on both the "left-wing" and the "right-wing"; the right-wing will be the most important. If you get the right-wing crowd right, you will probably win the entire contest. *****************Here's how you'll win:***************** First, I want the following types of people featured in the crowd on the right side: - Everyday Americans, featured more prominently at the front - Right-wing pundits (Rush Limbaugh, Ben Shapiro, Dennis Prager, Charlie Kirk), situated right behind them. - MAGA populists, right behind them. I've drawn one in the image, holding a magnet. You can draw someone else with that magnet instead; maybe the pundits. - Rich billionaires (who pull the strings in the background), featured a bit further back - Ultra-right wingers/Alt-Right/Nazis (Nic Fuentes, the Viking guy from the Capitol Hill event of January 6, 2021) The whole idea is that the movement has layers of people, with each group covering up the next, more extreme group of people. Second, I want a group of left-wingers on the back panel; some of them are pulling on the hypnotized person towards the left. Please include the following types of people: - Civil Rights activists; these are the BLM types, some people with LGBTQ signifiers. - Some women's rights groups-types - Progressive people with small "Peace/Love" or "No Hate" types of signs. - Left-wing Internet streamers (such as Destiny (Steven Bonnell) or Vaush) - Progressive atheists such as Matt Dillahunty (Atheist Experience), Christopher Hitchens Though I want the book cover motif to be reasonably drab (light whites, grays), the crowd is where you can put in the color. You can use Red, White, and Blue for American motifs too. Maybe color-code the book titles with those colors? You could even add some slight pink and grey tones as a gradation to the back cover, to symbolize racial and gender solidarity. This would be subtle; try whatever you think best communicates this. Please ask me if you have any questions. Whatever else is unclear, I can leave it to your artistic judgment. ****Spine/Center design; if you want, you can put a "cancel culture" sort of mob in the center - between the left and right crowds - angry, and facing to the right. It's scaring the guy on the front cover being pulled towards the left, who thinks he's going to get attacked by the "liberal mob." These can include characters like "Big Red", "Carl the Cuck," "Triglypuff" and "soy boys" (if you don't know these characters, they're available on the web/Google images)
If you find that there's way too much detail for a single book cover, that's fine. Because I had the idea of grabbing the individual layers of the crowd on the right, and posting them on the first few pages of the book, to symbolically show that the group is broken down into deeper layers. Page #1 - Everyday Americans Page #3 - Right-wing pundits Page #5 - MAGA populists Page #7 - Rich billionaires Page #9 - Ultra-right wingers/Alt-Right/Nazis Or, I use the images to associate them to chapters. There are a lot of possibilities. That being said, we could arrange to have you send me the pngs of these individual layers (black and image) so that I can put them in my book at my discretion. If this takes you extra time, I'm willing to pay.

And then… they selected a winner!
This very capable designer helped me take my book design (which Asael himself completed in a contest) and created a book cover which has passed KDP's guidelines.
The lower price of this project is justified by the fact that Asael went the extra mile during the design contest and essentially created a book cover then. This project served to finalize some details.
Along the way, they met lots of talented designers…
We think contests are a super fun way to get design.
