Entertainment & The Arts
I am an aspiring author. This is the first book in a trilogy.
What's your vision?
A long time ago, I created a map for a world that my book is set in. The name of the world is called Tenebrae. The book is entitled "In Pursuit of Wisdom", and it is Volume 1 of the Dark World Saga. Tenebrae is a Dark world that has fallen away from worshipping the One True God, and instead embraces the worship of many Gods. Life is filled with difficulty - poverty, lack of work, disease, and is ripe for war. Each book centers on an ancient artifact blessed by the one True God. The first is a staff...the Staff of Insight. The wielder of the staff see's the truth of a man's (or woman's) words. In a world full of lies and self-interest, such a staff is a powerful weapon for any ruler. It is written for the Young Adult and Adult markets. Stylisticly, if you combine GRRM's "Game of Thrones" with CS Lewis's spiritual overtones...you get a decent picture of the intrigue and format of the book. Like most epic fantasy, it spans multiple lands, multiple topographies, and traces the adventure of multiple characters. The map that I am attaching is the freehand sketches of a lad 15 years old...me. At least me, some 25 years ago when I first came up with the idea before life got busy. It needs to be professionally done. I would like the map split into 2 drawings that can fit easily into two facing pages of a 6"X9" trim. The higher the resolution, the better, but at a minimum 300 DPI. Black and white is fine. The margins of a 6 X 9" page limit us to roughly 4.5" X 7.5" I would expect, but I'm to alternatives, the map I'm attaching to be split East and West, with the continents of Elvidor, Oraz, and Urthrax to be in the East and the continents of Adimand, Ipidine, and the Uncharted Isles to be in the Western illustration. The map I'm attaching is not very good - it's hard to read. I will need to spell out some mountain ranges and city names that don't scan very well, as well as some critical geographical features that also may not have come through clearly. Like most epic fantasy, there are some strange names to cities and marshes.
Be creative - remember that this is a map of a world. I'd like it to have a middle-ages or perhaps even a Celtic flair to it. But the biggest pet peeve that I have when I look at a map in a book is that the print is so small and the resolution so poor that it is hard to place the characters in a town or wherever, so don't sacrifice on the resolution. Make sure it is high enough to see detail. The central character is a mage, who is coming of age (18) in the book. All: I have attached a listing of the correct spellings of the geographic designations, organized by continent.
