Jeremyis got their new icon or button by running a design contest:
iOS App Icon for new multiplayer matching game

We make apps. Right now we're working on an iOS match-3 game.
What's your vision?
We need an icon for our iOS game. Our game (ShapeJam) is a match-3 game that you play against your friends (think Words with Friends or Ruzzle/Scrambled but with shapes instead of letters). While it's in closed beta, we've gotten some very positive feedback. We're spending the next month or so polishing the game before doing a big launch. The game has a very minimalist design (similar to Letterpress or Dots:A game about connecting), and uses the following shapes: circle, tall rectangle, 5-pointed star. The 3 shapes show up either colored in red (rgb = 255, 66, 0), orange (rgb = 251, 166, 23) or blue (rgb = 3, 196, 255). I've attached a sketch proof-of-concept sketch. It contains a bunch of shapes in a jar. This is the idea we like most now, but are also open to something else. I've also attached some screen-captures of gameplay itself. The icon will have to be 1024 x 1024 (in raw format - vector graphics or photoshop); though it'll still need to look good at 57x57 (iPhone non-retina), 72x72 (iPad non-retina), 114x114 (iPhone retina) and 144x144 (iPad retina). Here's some info from Apple on icon design: http://developer.apple.com/library/ios/#documentation/userexperience/conceptual/mobilehig/IconsImages/IconsImages.html.
