Luke.grose got their new icon or button by running a design contest:
Create the next icon or button design for Swirl: Sight Words Interactive Reading Lists

The 'Swirl' organisation is 2 friends who are developing this app as independent developers. The target audience will be mothers aged 21 - 45 with young children in the age range of 3 to 8 years old (K to grade 3). The concept of sight words is universal so the market is global. However, the prototype for this app is getting most of it's attention from the US.
What's your vision?
Tell us About Yourself: I am a Software Developer with young children. My eldest daughter came home from school recently with a list of words that she was expected to know by sight. I found some public domain children's books online and saw the potential for taking these books and marking up the sight words. Parents can read these books with their children. As they read, the sight words will be highlighted. Touch the sight word and be presented with a few small activities for your child to do. Once they get each activity correct, that word is then marked as 'done'. The child has passed that word. This is a side project that I can only dedicate small amounts of time to. I need to make it pop where I can - like the "Hi-res App Icon" being developed here. Requirements: I am looking for an icon to represent the iOS version of my Swirl app. The prototype app is live and is seen here: https://play.google.com/store/apps/…ch_result#.. It is currently the most Minimal of Minimum Viable Products. It is a prototype only. Please note: this prototype is an Android app. The design I am looking for here is for iOS, NOT Android. The iOS Beta release of this app will be using the icons created for this competition on iOS generally with the target device being iPad specifically. The word 'swirl' opens up design ideas incorporating any swirl / whirlpool / spinning image. With that thought I have 2 ideas in mind: Idea 1: I like the Humpty Dumpty and could keep him and his character as a major component of the icon. I imagine this character with a subtle swirl engulfing him like a slight zephyr or willie willie (a gentle breeze in the same fashion of a twister, but...gentle). I want to take this image and preserve it's general character. I have provided a link with a Reference Image of the dancing humpty dumpty below. I have also included some individual png images that I used in the original prototype. Idea 2: I'm also open to alternative icons without the Humpty Dumpty character i.e. with something that represents a subtle 'swirl' image. The colour palette for the icon should be similar to the colours found in the humpty dumpty book. But, as always, I am open to anything that provides a better balance between subtle yet clear in it's meaning. The icon should be available in each of the sizes as defined in the table in the following link: https://developer.apple.com/library/ios/#documentation/UserExperience/Conceptual/MobileHIG/IconsImages/IconsImages.html#//apple_ref/doc/uid/TP40006556-CH14-SW1 Things I do NOT want: The word Swirl in the icon.
Here is the URL for the original cover image that the Humpty Dumpty character came from: http://www.gutenberg.org/files/25883/25883-h/images/cover.jpg This image can be used as a Reference Image for the icon. Here is the link to the book itself: http://www.gutenberg.org/files/25883/25883-h/25883-h.htm Please use it to get more ideas about the character and palette for the icon. Also note that these images are public domain so there are no restrictions as to their use or modifications.
