Cb991 got their new icon or button by running a design contest:
New App Icon for "HIN Search"
Check out Cb991's Icon or button contest…
We develop productivity and reference related Mobile Apps. Many are nautical/boat related.
What's your vision?
We need a new Android & iOS Mobile App Icon for our application "HIN Search". HIN Search's primary purpose is to look up and decode "Serial Numbers" on boats to tell you who the manufacturer is, and when it was made. HIN is short for "Hull Identification Number", and on most boats is located in the upper right of the back/stern. The primary elements we are trying to convey are "Boat", "Search", "Decode" and "HIN". Please do not use icon borders. Please use the same source icon that looks good in both iOS & Android. The icon should look good in resolutions 76x and up, and be recognizable at lower ones. For deliverables, we need all the standard Android & iOS App Icon sizes as PNGs, as well as the source PSD file.
The attached sketch shows approximately where the HIN / "Serial Number" is usually on a boat - on the upper right of the stern/back. This sketch could be used as a jumping off point for an icon, but please try other ideas as well. Artistic license can be taken where the HIN is, but it should be towards the back of the boat. I'm open to entirely different ideas. Also attached is the current app icon. I like the colors used in it, but I do not like that it looks so power boat centric. It also fails to convey "Search" or "Decode". Maybe use a generic boat back end like the sketch? Or a more abstract "boat"? Do not include pictures of cargo ships. This app is targeted at recreational boaters with sail boats, power boats, fishing boats, kayaks, and canoes. Using English words in the icon is OK. Screenshots and additional app details are available at https://www.HINSearchPlus.com. Additional followup work may be available.
