Ninjawords
I'm building an iPhone application called Ninjawords. It's a really fast dictionary on your phone -- "fast like a ninja". The iPhone application works like the Ninjawords website. Please have a look to get a feel for it:
http://www.ninjawords.com
Please design an application icon for Ninjawords in both 512x512 and 57x57 sizes. The 57x57 icon is used on the iPhone and the 512x512 is used in the Apple iTunes AppStore. Feel free to just resize the 512x512 icon to be 57x57, but if there are significant lost details because of the resizing, please touch them up in your final submission. The appearance of the 57x57 icon is the highest priority.
The theme for the icon is looking up words in a dictionary, and ninjas. We do use a ninja star in our app (see this screenshot), so one possibility would be a dictionary with a ninja star thrown into it. Be as creative as you like conceptually. I'll give solid, constructive feedback shortly after you post something.
The icon should include the purple color that appears on the Ninjawords website (#534B78) in some way.
In addition to being a beautiful, meaningful, edgy icon for this app, the icon should match the iPhone UI guidelines and not be completely out of place when sitting next to Apple's iPhone icons (see them here). The icon should
* Be square.
* Be facing the screen head on, not facing left or right with perspective.
* Have a light source (if needed) coming from the top, not from the left or right.
* Must look good and be visible on a black background (for the iPhone) and a light gray background (for the AppStore)
You can submit screenshots of what your icon looks like when rounded, but keep in mind that I'll need the final assets to be square images, unrounded (Apple requires this). In addition to the final images, I'll need the PSD or illustrator file to integrate the icon into the application.
Finally, please throw in any additional assets in your submission that you used to make the logo. For example, if there's a piece of a ninja star in the icon you make, include the full star separately as part of your final submission. We'd love to use it elsewhere in the app.
That's it. I'm really looking forward to working with you!
