How Good Are You With Representing Abstract Concepts in an Icon?

We are a business that specializes in life cycle predictive modeling and simulation. We map the behavior of a piece of equipment and all its subsystems and support processes (how each component operates, how each have been repaired, how each are maintained, the replacement or repaired parts, etc. creating a model of the system and all its support logistics. We then run the model (conduct a simulation) injecting management's strategic decisions, to see the output of how this equipment and its support processes will operate in the future (predictive modeling and simulation).

The support processes behind an operating fleet of equipment could be summarized into one word "logistics". We would like an icon produced that represents "Predictive Logistics". The sample provided is perhaps overly simplistic, but a designer should get a good idea that we are looking for minimal use of colors, simple / clear line art type imagery, a very modern feel is desired - 3D feel, shadowing, lighting is ok, as long as it does not distract from the icon message.

In the first round, all the designers struck out. TIPS: 1) How do you convey seeing into the future with an icon? 2) Concept idea: A swooshing arrow around the globe with a background of outerspace, with a gear on the tail, a wrench in the middle. Outerspace (black with stars) implies futuristic, the arrow around the world conveys global logistics, and the gear implies engineering or parts, and the wrench could convey parts or maintenance.
