ARC Industrial Transformation Training Centre in Optimisation Technologies, Integrated Methodologies and Applications
The ARC Training Centre in Optimisation Technologies, Integrated Methodologies and Applications (OPTIMA), is a new centre funded through ARC. It is a partnership between the ARC, the University of Melbourne, Monash University, three overseas universities and an initial group of 11 Industry Partners from the advanced manufacturing, energy resources, and critical infrastructure sectors. OPTIMA addresses industry’s urgent need for decision-making tools for global competitiveness: reducing lead times, and financial and environmental costs, while improving efficiency, quality, and agility. OPTIMA’s innovative training and research programs focus on the goal of advancing an industry ready optimisation toolkit, while training a new generation of industry practitioners. We are a research centre but our partners are from a wide diversity of industries including Boeing, IBM and energy companies but we are even in talks with KFC.
The logo should hopefully be simple, elegant, and maybe say something about striving for the maximum, or arranging things to fit constraints (this could include hexagon tessellation, and there are 6 letters in the word OPTIMA). We also liked the hexagon concept in the logo of Maxima (our old centre, attached) as optimisation means there is no space, no wastage like the game tetris or packing containers close together. Optimisation is aiming to find the peak of a function (like the top of a mountain). That there is an optimum for everything. Attached is a previous logo I developed for another centre I ran at called MAXIMA (similar but different!), and some related marketing materials that used the logo concept. I like how punchy the ATLAS logo (attached is). We are happy to receive hexagon type logos again but also happy to receive other ideas. I imagine greens, blues or purples as strong colours but again I am open. Not these: We also need to STAY AWAY from other things called optima in terms of imagery: https://optima.com.au/ https://www.carsales.com.au/kia/optima/ https://www.optimahg.com.au/ https://www.centurybatteries.com.au/products/optima http://optima-maths-production.azurewebsites.net/What-Makes-Optima-Maths-Different and all the logos that appear when you search for optima in https://www.brandsoftheworld.com/search/logo?search_api_views_fulltext=Optima
