The main problem facing those who try to find proof of Jesus is the dearth of historical evidence. We have only one undisputed first century source which mentions him: the New Testament texts. This is strange, since the period was very well documented. Indeed, the kings, chief rabbis and Roman emperors mentioned in the New Testament are all found in many other historical texts written at that time. But Jesus is conspicuously absent. This discrepancy has led most scholars to conclude that although Jesus from Nazareth probably existed, he must have been much less significant in his own time than the New Testament suggests. A minority consider Jesus an entirely mythological character. But have these scholars really kept their eyes fully open? In the process of doing a project on the historical Jesus, former medical researcher and current author and film maker Lena Einhorn stumbled upon a surprising finding: When she compared the New Testament with the narratives of first century historian Josephus she discovered a large number of parallel events – involving a messianic leader very similar to Jesus. But nobody had previously made the connection. How is this possible? Well, the likely reason is that in the texts of Josephus these events consistently occurred twenty years later than in the New Testament. Twenty years, with precision, every time. Could there have been a conscious effort among those writing or compiling the New Testament to move the actual occurrences to an earlier period? And if so, would the reason have been to eliminate alternate, and even contradictory, accounts of the life of Jesus?
This will be a closed contest, but judging may take an additional week (staff holidays) Please be patient
