turnermatthew94 got their new book cover by running a design contest:
Soviet-style propaganda poster book cover!
Check out turnermatthew94's Book cover contest…
Hey everyone, I've used this website several times in the past, and I've always been astounded by the sheer talent I've seen here. I'm looking forward to working with you all again!
Iron Curtain is a short science-fiction book set in the USSR of 1949, as it faces a grave and apocalyptic new threat: a sentient virus from ancient Egypt that can infiltrate and take over the minds of anyone it infects. It is ATEN, the Sun-God of old, who has his sights set on world domination.
Target audience are young-adult males.
Book cover type
Normally I'm strongly in favor of allowing designers as much creativity as possible, but in this instance I have a more specific idea in mind. 1. The more strongly the cover resembles a typical Soviet-style propaganda poster, the better. Lots of reds and blacks, blatant propaganda, sickles and hammers, missiles and so on. It can be as abstract or as literal as you would like. I have included several examples in the files attached to this. The more your designs look like something churned out by the USSR, the better! 2. The cover and author name should be in Cyrillic font, to imitate the Russian style of writing. 3. The summary/blurb on the back of the book can be written in normal font. 4. If possible, including a representation of the Egyptian god Aten on the cover would be excellent. His symbol is a many-armed sun, and can be found in the images below. I picture a soviet-style propaganda poster organized around this image of the Sun-God. 5. Big and loud and splashy mood! It can be somewhat tongue-in-cheek as well. This is not a book that portray's Stalin's regime in a positive light. 6. In the summary on the back of the cover, putting the word "SUN-GOD" in a different color font (golden or red, something to make it stand out from the rest of the summary) would be neat. If it looks dumb, though, don't do it.
What to avoid
Please don't include any pictures of me, I'm hideous lol
