NaN, or "not a number," is a database error caused by invalid input into a mathematical calculation, such as when you try to compute numeric pi with apple strudel. So what is knotanumber? Knotanumber is what you get when you start with a pimply, asthma-ridden, Bible belt-on, Atari-binging, Asimov-reading, never-been-kissed nerd and, through the application of epigenetic lifestyle factors and Pokemon pellets, transform him into a gently aged, distance-running, veggie-eating, anti-evangelical, badass middle manager-who is still a nerd.

Tagline: In space, the lame don’t walk, they soar. Blurb: Setting out on their maiden voyage is the first all-handicapped space crew: an all-American basketball star, a celebrity streamer, a computer genius, a military hero, a walking encyclopedia, and the first human born in space. But when a massive solar flare threatens the ship and festering secrets divide the crew, is their mission crippled from the start? More background: On the surface, the book is a feel-good adventure about a young, handicapped crew trying to make their mark in space. While delivering supplies to the moon, they must undertake a daring spacewalk repair to get out of the path of a powerful coronal mass ejection, or CME. On a deeper level, the story is about broken promises, disillusionment, and coming to terms with limitations and failure. It delves into insecurity, psychological trauma, sexuality, and technology addiction. Here is the character lineup: Jake, the captain: the first human born in space and suffering from a failing heart. He has to drop out of the mission at the last moment for a life-saving procedure, leaving Milo in charge Milo: an All-American basketball star before he had a leg amputated Vivian, or Vee-Vee: a celebrity streamer with sirenomelia, Mermaid syndrome Bobby: a compulsive gamer with brittle bone disease Jess: a high-functioning autistic with a photogenic memory Tayen: a Native American injured on active duty with a synthetic arm The High Five is a spur-of-the-moment name that the entire team hates but is now stuck with. It represents the veneer of positivity that covers over all the messiness and complexity of real people and relationships. There were supposed to be six team members originally. The ASF Moonlighter is the ship, a twenty-five year old relic that vaguely resembles a star destroyer from Star Wars—except only a fraction of the size and with none of the menace. Set in the future about 30 years, the book has a realistic, science-based tone. There’s no warp-drive, transporters, etc… The technology is only an iterative improvement over today’s.

Target audience is 20-30, both male and female. Especially space nerds--or anyone who has ever dreamed of being a space nerd.

I don't have a preconceived cover concept in mind... It needs to convey space travel (Earth-to-moon range) and a team/crew dynamic. But otherwise... well, the sky is not the limit. Refer to the story description for ideas.
