Jay Allan Storey
Jay Allan Storey has traveled the world, passing through many places in the news today, including Iraq, Iran, Afghanistan, and the Swat valley in Pakistan. He has worked at an amazing variety of jobs, from cab driver to land surveyor to accordion salesman to software developer. Jay is the author of four novels, and a number of short stories. A new novel is in the works for 2018. His stories always skirt close to the edge of believability (but hopefully never cross over). He is attracted to characters who are able to break out of their stereotypes and transform themselves. He loves both reading and writing, both listening to and playing music, and working with animals. He's crazy for any activity relating to the water, including swimming, surfing, wind-surfing, sailing, snorkeling, and scuba diving. Jay is married and lives in Vancouver, BC, Canada.
Vita Aeterna is a dark, edgy YA/SciFi story about Alex, a street kid living in a dystopian world. Alex's life is turned upside down when he undergoes a medical procedure called 'Appraisal'.
Young Adults or Adults who like dystopian themes, and lots of action. Probably mainly males, though it could appeal to anyone. The actual location is never explained.
Book cover type
The book consists mainly of Alex on the run from a ruthless secret society called Vita Aeterna, and trying to solve the mystery of what has happened to him. (A medical experiment extended his life expectancy to almost 500 years) The world is divided into 3 classes: A tiny Elite of ultra-wealthy living in a walled-in paradise called the First Circle, a larger group of workers for the corporations who service them, and a vastly larger group living in extreme poverty. I conceive of the cover as featuring a dark background of a crumbling city, maybe with a figure running? I had an idea of having an image in the distance of the wall surrounding the impossibly opulent First Circle – an image of the 'pearly gates' to paradise might be a good symbol to use. What attracted me to the current cover was the figure standing at the end of a long road, contemplating an unknown future. That is how I visualize Alex. Of course, I'm no expert, and I welcome any other ideas you might have.
