Art & Design
I have uploaded youtube videos (channel: Paula Ward) and have written an e-book on knitting techniques. Specifically, how to design and knit a sweater without a pattern.
What's your vision?
Not sure art and design is the right category for this, but there wasn't one for "hobbies and crafts." I have written an e-book on knitting a sweater without a pattern. The e-book is based on my youtube videos. I am updating the book, and I need a professional e-book cover to replace the current (low-budget) one. The current cover can be viewed on the sales page: knitsweaterpattern.com. I will need the file in a variety of sizes, plus a "3-D" version. I an also self-publishing a print version, so the cover needs to work for that also, or only need a slight modification. I want to convey that this is an instructional workbook that teaches a method that is doable and not overly complicated. I lean towards light and bright, rather than dark. Nothing cartoony. Other than that, I'm open. I am influenced by existing knitting books, which you can find on Amazon. Books on sweater design tend to show photos of balls of yarn, swatches of knitted fabric, tape measures, etc. But, hey--bring me something better. My customer is a female, ages 25--65, mainly in the U.S. Title: Easy Knitting Design Subtitle: Simple techniques to design and knit a sweater that really fits! Author: Paula Ward Added 2/16/13:From my first comment to all designers:Knitting books fall into several categories: 1. books of knitting patterns that would show a model in a sweater/hat/whatever; 2. books that teach you how to knit (a sort of compendium) that usually show yarn and needles beautifully photographed (like #6 and #7 ), and 3. books that teach specific techniques that show a sample of the technique on the cover. Mine is in the last category. So what I'm (finally) seeing is that more needs to be going on in the cover photo than just yarn and needles. That's too generic. However, I eliminated several designs that showed sweaters knit using certain patterns because the garments were made using techniques I don't cover. I won't bore you with what those are. What I do use in my technique is yarn, knitting needles, pins, and a tape measure. NO graph paper. Although the photos in my dropbox show the technique (to some extent), those photos aren't required.
I have created a folder of some of the photos I shot for the revision. I don't require that you use them--I just had them and thought I'd throw them out there just in case. I am not a professional photographer, which will be obvious from the photos. They are unedited, in .jpg format. The folder is in my dropbox at https://www.dropbox.com/sh/vfeidxb7yaglkgn/3wp4fKLMdG/shots%20for%20cover%20designers
