The Girl in the Blue Helmet is more than a memoir—it reveals a need to consider experiences and relinquish fear to face the insurmountable challenges of life. By recounting memories of her life leading up to her diagnosis, she encourages us to listen and learn from our intuition during moments of great change. For Maria, she realised her tumour was not a ‘monster’ capable of ending her life.
